Whey protein alternatives?

Anyone have any suggestions for protein sources that are vegetarian and good for muscle recovery/growth? I'd like to stay away from soy and whey protein, or anything animal based.

Preferably something I can down quickly post work out, I have trouble choking down alot of nuts. I've had one type of hemp protein before and it was gross and mixed poorly.

hemp protein is the only one i can think of...

i tried it once and i thought it was pretty gross.

my sister swears by it though...

How bout you accept the fact that your body needs protiens and amino acids from animal products, suck it up, and eat them anyway. Unless your allergic to meat, there is no reason to avoid it.

Of course there is. Soy Protein. its not as effective but it works. just dont take too much because it tends to reduce testosterone levels and increase estrogen.

hating on vegetarians makes you cool

Not.

howabout you respect their beliefs and come up with a viable suggestion

[*]Amaranth*

[*]Cereals and grains - buckwheat*, rye, corn, rice, pasta...

[*]Leafy green vegetables, including spinach

[*]Legumes - beans, lentils, peas, peanuts

[*]Nutritional yeast*

[*]Nuts - almonds, walnuts, cashews...

[*]Quinoa*

[*]Seaweed - spirulina*, kelp ...

[*]Seeds - hemp*, sesame, sunflower...

[*]Soy* products - tofu, tempeh, soy milk...

[*]Vegetables - Brussel sprouts, potatoes, yuca

hope that helps a little bit

Beans and corn. By combining the amino acid combinations of beans and the amino acid combination of corn (or rice) you achieve a complete protein amino acid combination. So make some burritos!

ohh and pumpkin seeds have much higher protein levels than other nuts and seeds.. if you can stomach tofu its mad high too.

I know all about amino acid combos etc, but thanks. I'm really looking for a mass protein source for post workout, something a little easier to down than burritos whatever, and also a way to boost my protein intake after I'm done hiking for the day on the Pacific Crest Trail this spring/summer. Again, I'm really not a fan of soy, it's not very ideal protein as far as I understand, as well as overconsumption of it throwing off alot of hormonal balances in your body, plus it's not the greatest crop in terms of environmental effects.

And leckett, go eat a dick if meat is so essential.
