Where would skiing be???

I keep hearing in different threads about people saying we wouldnt be anywhere without snowboarders, and that freestyle wouldnt exist...i was just wondering if that was just one persons opinion stated over and over in the threads, or if lots of people think that. Personally i think that skiing would have progressed here anyway, i dont do freestyle because snowboarders do it, i do it because it's the natural progression of my life...trampoline leads to doing tricks on the ground, then on skis. I think it might have taken longer for skiing to progress here, but i think it would have anyway...just look at Mckonky doing double backs in '92. The sport of skiing is so versatile that it would have progressed no matter what...well, that's my 2 cents....what do you all think???

you're right. The main differentce from the 70's freestyle sking is grabs, rails and off axis spins. It's kinda weird to think that nobody would think of Grabbing their ski. But it definitly wouldn't have happened nearly as quickly. We wouldn't have terrain parks without snowboarders. And I think that most people would think that sliding rails was a stupid stupid idea if snowboarders weren't doing them.

i think that we would be next to nowhere w/o snowboarders. we definately wouldnt have parks or a pipe. who wouldve of thought of making a pipe for skis.

Sometimes i forget w/c head to think with

Yeah, everyone looks at 80s skiing and how bad that was but in the 70s people were doing switch spins and flippy spinny things. I think that grabs and all would have eventually came up but no where near as fast...

and we wouldve figured pipes and rails from skateboarders and stuff, and grabbing and mctwists couldve come from them too

also some people say we would still be all neon and tightclothed and shit for some reason, and that just changed from the trend that came from the 90s

if it wasn't for snowboarders..we wouldn't have parks..and if he didnt have parks then the only jibbing wouild be is big mountain. Face it..if boarders hadnt started this 20 years before us, we would be 20 years back in this area.. maybe now, the big mountains would just be building stuff for the first time..i dunno..but we wouldnt be here..at least not in the parks

There is no doubt we would be doing newschool without snowboarders. But we can thank them for greatly speeding up the process. Yeah mogul tricks were around before snowboarders. Someone would of screwed up a trick making a new one and people would naturally progress (but then came the FIS...dont get me started). I think without snowboarders though our style would be different too. We must thank snowboarding for helping the skiing revolution, but it could of happened without them too!

i think we would have done just fine without snowboarders....sure they sped up the process, but even if terrain parks didnt exist, we'd be building backcountry hits, and doing tricks off cliffs, until the resorts realized we liked to jump...and all the tricks snowboarders do would have occured naturally to skiers anyways...

i´ve seen pics of people grabbing in the 70s it just never got big.

anyway of course people would have grabbed eventually anyway.

snowboarding just made it happen lot faster.

and i don´t think newschool-skiing happened because of snowboarding but because of old-school-freestyle being dead, 'doing snowboarding' on skis was just a way out of it that was there.

skiing would have eventually made it to the point it's at right now without snowboarding, but who knows when it would have happened. and it would be very inlineish...

but who cares? we are here, and snowboarding helped us get here.

I mostly think that we wouldnt have gotten to exactly this point if not for snowboarding. I mean amybe in about 40 years, but not liek this at all!

uhh...where did the twin tip, and parabolic design come from? snowboards perhaps...

I think snowboarding was invented because skiing had gone in a rut. even the first snowboards were not twin tipped. they begain from us, and then because all, ahhh, I mean most kids went to snowboarding. they thought it was cool to grab and spin, skiers like mike d saw that and realized why skiing was in a rut, they offered a solution. twin tip skis. that is the way I see it

Me not like pro basketball, cause me short and they all tall. baseball slow like forest gump, except when robbie spits on ump. wrestlemania not that great. Me like to see hulk hogan skate. TV soccer not that hot. u play that and u get shot.

i think snowboarding helped it along a little...giving us the idea to grab...but other than that its all our doing...i just progress for my own good...to feel like a gangsta when i stomp phat shit....

but i dont like snowboaders, too much casue all they do is insult us...but yeah...

Freestyle would have progressed, but fis sucks

so what ever, man sometime skiing sucks, so u got a keep it intresting.

... but whatever the leaders of our sport are crack addicts so who knows whats gonna happen.'

Yea my dad had a pair of orange olin mark iv, they have 'twin tips', i'm looking at them in the rafters of my basement as we speak.

i still got my single direction snowboard in my room. my good ol'kemper rampage 130. it's got a bright neon pink base.

i like how snowboarders say skiers all wear bright neon clothing but ive got pictures in my room of snowboarders wearin the exact same thing.

i dont know about the rest of skiing, but i think i'd be where i am today, even if snowboarding didnt exist...and if i'm as good as i am, chances are there would have been people out there who would still be better than me, so i think we would have done fine

Skiing's progression in the late 70's and throughout the 80's led to snowboarding's progression which led to another era of progression in our sport...that's how I see it anyways. Plake was attempts misty's in blizzard of ahhh's, well before boarders were doing them. The legends of the 70's were throwing double backs and launching massive flips off cliffs until lawsuits forced progressive skiing to take somewhat of a backseat. Then snowboarding stepped up with new creative ways of riding with terrain parks. I dont think either sport would be where it is today without the other.
