we are in the process of building skis right now. before you try and do anything, think about this: why are you doing it? are you truely unsatisfied with whats currently avaialbe? that actually happened to be my case. i also have a totally new core design we will be incorperating and hopefully patenting. if you do not have any real reasoning behind going into it, you MAY wanna rethink it.
that being said, this isnt something you should just jump into. the first step is research. LOTS AND LOTS of research. before you touch a thing, you have to know and understand all the fundimentals of how a ski works, how composite materials differ, how composite systems work, why skis are built the way they are, as well as completely understand the process as well as how to correctly use all the tooling required. i know that sounds like alot, but its truely crucial. ive been looking into this for prolly 3-4 years. i tried to do it a few years ago, and it was a horrible failure. this summer, every thing fell into place. we have a HUGE, heated and insulated shop, a free steel I beam press, and hookups on all sorts of tools and shit.
all that being said, if its something you really wanna do, go for it! but the key to a successful opperation is knowledge, and getting shit free, unless your loaded. its alot of work, but its been super fun, and ive learned a ton. definatly a good expierence.
