i don't quite get the point of posting this picture. if it's to say that when prayer was removed from schools, school shooting numbers, then this is an irrelevant thing to post since it doesn't record data up until 2012

it makes me shiver, to think of all the love that he doesn't deliver.

Idk. It felt like it could be a rap song so I decided I'd take my stab at being the bestest rapper to ever live

Uugh, I need to study but I will answer this one.

I'm not saying the entirety of evolution is false, I probably came across that way, sorry.

Micro evolution is a true thing. An example is let's say you have a tribe of people that has blue eyes but a resessive trait of brown eyes. Now the tribe splits and the brown eye trait becomes dominate in the second tribe after years and years of mating and new offspring. So the original tribe has blue eyes but now the second tribe has brown eyes. This is micro evolution.

Macro evolution is the other unproven part of evolution. This is the part that says we came from different animals and organisms over millions of years.

Let me go back to the first living cell to go against macro evolution.

I'm getting this information from a book called "It Couldn't Just Happen" by Lawrence Richards.

And I'm typing it out on mobile so bare with me for any spelling errors.

Amino acids: Some 20 different kinds of amino acids are needed for the protein in living cells. Even after 30 years of experiments, three key amino acids have not been made chemically even in experiments especially designed to produce them!

Also, the way some amino acids must be made in the test tube (using heat, gases, electricity or ultraviolet rays) will destroy other amino acids. Many are destroyed by heat. Others are broken down by oxygen or by other acids. Even if Earth had ever been as evolutionists imagine, the amino acids that might have formed then would quickly have been destroyed. Without the protection provided by being in a living cell, amino acids could never have come together to evolve further.

Lipids. These fatty materials make up about 10% of the simplest cells. No one has been able to make lipids chemically. They are only produced by life.

Porphyrin. This is an important molecule in hemoglobin, the element in red blood cells that carries oxygen. Evolutionists realize that there must have been porphyrins for life to survive. Without porphyrins, oxygen breaks down the other chemicals in a cell. But porphyrinlike chemicals can only be made when there is free oxygen available.

If amino acids can only be made when there is no free oxygen in the atmosphere, and porphyrins can only be made when there is free oxygen, then these things needed by every cell could not have existed together to form the first cell! What's more, many of these compounds are antagonistic. They will combine and destroy each other-anywhere except within a living cell.

Polynucleotides. These complex chemicals are found in DNA and RNA, linked together in groups of as many as 4,500 units. DNA is the "code" that cells use to reproduce the proteins of which cells are composed. That "code" also tells the cells how to make more DNA.

What does this mean? Simply to make DNA, you have to have DNA in the first place! You have to have the DNA code within the cell before you can make more DNA code. Without the complete code in the first place, there is no way to make the code necessary for every living cell!

good call. I saw it on another website and was hoping to troll people and did not realize read all of it. I think it is trying to say in a 26 year period, before and after taking prayer away, shooting was lower. They left out 2012 due to it being out of the 26 year period. Either way it looks like it's time for me to go to bed and stop posting.

How do you know it's a he?

Maybe it doesnt have a gender.

Maybe god doesn't exist and it's a made up idea that homo sapiens use to make themselves feel more significant and a part of something bigger because we know so little of who we are, where we came from, and why we are here.

What makes the death of a human more tragic than that of a flower? Just because we have evolved prefrontal lobes doesn't mean our deaths aren't the same. We both are born, live, die, then decompose.

There is good and bad in nature, bacteria that take over other bacteria and kill it in order for the malicious bacteria to survive. Animals fight over territory and kill if they need to. It's nature. There is no god. There is life, and death. Enjoy it while you can, believe in what makes you happy, if believing god is a white man with a long flowy beard who punishes the evil and praises the good makes you happy then right on. If you believe in science and that life and death are a cycle in the universe that helps ecosystems and worlds survive then there you go.

I just always find it ignorant that most people view god as a he. Seems a little narrow minded and misogynistic. Why can't there be multiple creators? Why do people view their way the right way and others the wrong?

It's because a god is an idea. It;'s not a tangible thing and you will never meet a god when you die. God is the idea that your life means something. It gives you a code to live by, do good and you'll be rewarded, do bad and you will be punished. God is a guideline, god is hope, god is an answer to the currently unknown.

God is an idea. Ideas aren't real. They are constructs of your brain.

but if he is omnipotent and does good, why can't/doesn't he stop evil? if you argue free will, then why is god given credit for good things that happen? if bad things happen because we have free will and make them happen, then surely good things happen because we have free will and make them happen, right?

so you think a higher power exists and have picked the Christian god. but what if the higher power is the jewish god? or the Muslim god? or Hindu gods? or pagan gods? or any of the other thousands of religions that have existed over the years with different variations of a higher power? even when putting faith in a higher power you are taking just as much of a risk that you have chosen the right one

Hahhaha no i understand the literal "why is god referred to as a he in christianity" its a patriarchal religion and i get that. I was just pointing to the "why" Like why does it have to be a male why cant it be a blue flying octopus or a giant orb of energy. why is it a he? aside from the obvious, "well in the bible its the father son and holy spirit."

but yeah thats all im gonna say on this topic.

This is a good way to think about it. One doesnt have to follow strict rituals and take the bible literally, but being part of a religion gives you a nice community, support, values to live by etc.... Im not really religious but I can definitely see the positive aspects

I do like the fact that he's a white dude with long flowing blonde hair. Makes people take a second look when they see me cruisin down the mountain in the spring. Unfortunately Jesus did not snowboard. Jesus was a skiblader - proverbs 7:23

that is probably the worst example of microevolution and it is also not possible for alleles to go from recessive to dominant in the manner you describe. what you tried to describe was the founder effect depending on how small the population gets and potentially bottle necking. its a change in the available alleles of genes of a gene pool due to outside factors, such as migration. although it is a type of microevolution, it is not what is normally considered when the topic is discussed. microevolution is often considered an adaptation of a species selecting for a successful allele.

lol the logic of that excerpt:

what came first, the chicken or the egg? we don't know. fuck it, must have been god!

also that does not refute macroevolution. it only refutes the current theories of the birth of life in earth. quite poorly.

I know it doesn't refute it, but it definitely goes against it. And I don't know how it does it poorly as it's all pretty straight forward.

im pretty sure every religion thread on newschoolers becomes the exact same thing by the second page. same people, same arguments, no real progress...

But it's so much fucking fun. That's why I'm banking on JAHpow being legit. Otherwise he'll get bored and leave. But I think he's legit, which could give me something to argue for at least the next few days.

hahahahhaahahahahha This is ridiculous.

1. Micro evolution ALWAYS leads to macro evolution. It is just stupid to say that one has been proven and the other hasn't.

2. It is easy to see evidence of macro evolution just by looking at the fossil record.

3. Wow! You're saying that the origin of life on Earth is complicated. No wonder it took BILLIONS of years.4. Sure, scientists don't know exactly how life originated on Earth, in fact it could have formed on Mars (panspermia). There are a lot of HYPOTHESES for the origin of life. Does the fact that some (or even most) of these don't work disprove or even go against macroevolution? NO. Refer to number 2. Also remember that scientists understand that we don't know everything. That's why scientists continue to study this stuff.5. In order to disprove the scientific field of evolutionary science, one would have to disprove EVERY SINGLE THEORY BASED ON IT. Good luck, that's going to take a huge discovery.

well to be fair, that's about how everything in society has gone pretty much forever.

2 groups argue, neither group changes opinions.

I have noticed recently that NSG's major threads seem to be whichever ones theabortionator decides he wants to argue in. In 7 years I don't think I've ever seen someone control so many major threads.

what ever happened to woozy anyway?

I think the difference is the types of threads. Woozy knew nothing beyond politics/foreign policy.

I bet we could drag him out of hiding by bumping the thread in which he claimed libya was the next iraq.

It's incredibly therapeutic to post in shitstorm threads. At least for me.

Sometimes a shitstorm is just a hope and a dream, and it needs a little help to turn it into a reality. I think the only ones I really care about are the drug war threads. Don't get enough of those :(

Oh he's still on here. He just lurks generally. Had a convo with him while one of the huge shitstorm threads about economics was going down. If he didn't jump into that one Idk what you'd have to do to get him out.

Honestly I just love to argue and I make everybody in my real life upset, because anything that ever comes out of my mouth is an argument, so I just do it here. And lol at the guy who said nothing in the Bible hasn't been Disproven. Pretty sure that no one not even a 600-year-old drunk didn't build a boat that could fit every single animal and then have the entire world flooded Killing everyone. Also while we're on the subject where did he get enough food for every animal how did the animals not eat eachother, and also why did no other boats in the world worked that day?

fluoridation/airport security was pretty fun.

the problem with the drug war is that it's over done. There's like a thread per month on that.

I'm waiting for that fire department in Tennessee to let another house burn to the ground over a $75 fee to start another shitstorm thread. I figured it's happened 2 years running so there's a good chance.

OOOO PICK ME PICK ME!!!!!!!! I LOVE THIS ONE!!!!!! PICK ME

TEACHER TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!

How did he go to every part of the world and get all these creatures. Without some serious frequent flyer miles, that would be a pain in the ass. Oh no, they didn't have planes back then either? hmm, marty must have slipped him a pair of new balances when he went back there in the 4th back to the future movie. Also how did these poor creatures survive being in a completely different environment for so long?

What happened to the fish when the salt and fresh water mixed?

Let's not praise the policemen who rushed in to stop the shooting and the teacher who sacrificed her own life for her students. Rather, let's praise God for stepping in and giving all of these weak people the power that they would have never had without God's strength.

The logic of overly-religious people baffles me sometimes....

The amount of science that proves evolution is unreal. We were monkeys, whales were a hippo like creature, and birds were reptiles. The fossile record alone pretty much proves this.

There's this line that I always think of on that subject. A christian band called cademans call.

"I'm so thankful, that I'm incapable, of doing any good on my own"

Pretty much sums up the point there. And that's the attitude a lot of christians take. I've heard many sermons on the topic.

We are weak and useless but if we allow god to use us he can do great things with us. If you build a house by yourself, it wasn't anything to do with your skill, it was all gods hand. Be thankful that god stood on the sidelines sipping beer while you worked your ass off everyday to build that shit so you can give him all the credit in the end.

Now I gotta see if this band still exists. I think I was in maybe 5th or 6th grade the last time I heard that song. Probably only remember it because it was the first cd my family had, somebody gave it to my sister for her birthday and me and her probably played the shit out of it.

/ super riveting tale about shit nobody cares about.

well its kind of hard to jump into this thread now, specially since i was the one who started it. so i will try to answer a couple of the first things i see..

briefly, to abortionators point about the bible having so many different versions etc etc. that is a pretty thin argument. yes there are "different versions" but they're all translated into saying the same thing. its more so just into different style of writing: king james, new kind james, english standard, etc etc. some may use different words in different places, but when you look at the literal greek or hebrew translations, you could take either english word from the hebrew.

to amedeus' picture/quote from epicurus and the whole argument of pointing out if God is able to prevent able, or stop this, or what have you. God leaves it up to us humans to have a choice. to do evil or not do evil. if god intervened every time someone was about to do an evil act, there would be no choosing involved, and therefore we would just be puppets or robots.

also, to your answer "moral challenge". no, there is not one more ethical thing a christian can do thats better than an athiest. but in the end, what standard does an athiest have to live by? only his own. so if he thinks its ok to shoot up a school, he will do it. and at this point, its all relativism. "to each his own", right? wrong. being a Christian set your standards and it sets your morals. giving you something to live by. giving you a "mirror" to look at yourself and see the right or wrong that you're doing.

and to put it simply, just because you're "religious" doesnt mean you're "doing it right". the religious fanatics of 9/11 are a good example. personally, i believe christianity is the one and only true way to heaven. but thats a whole other argument.

I think that argument I made was more about the many different interpretations in terms of people, churches. If it's a book you're supposed to live your whole life by, every aspect, you'd think it'd be a little more clear. There are so many differences if you go person to person, church to church. Makes it harder to take seriously.

Let's see what also has happened since then....

-General happiness has gone down

-income gap has gone up

-gun technology up

-i could go on

The point is, that graph is bullshit.

I agree with the graph being bullshit but do you honestly think god impacts your list?

Happiness is a choice but more importantly there is no way to measure general happiness.

There has always been an income gap read some history.

Where does gun technology play a part? If gun technology and medical technology have both gone up wouldnt they be from the same god?

christianity =/= morals

I don't get how people actually believe that, and how people get so deep rooted in their belief system... It's all your brain. BRAIN. God doesn't exist, and all the people that keep trying to defend it over and over, you're just saying the same thing, over and over. I tried that once, then I just gave up and realized that God is honestly a no - go. And I'm perfectly happy. I had more stress being a christian because I was always worried MY GOD would be WRONG. and then he was. Grow up, people.

The shooting didn't have anything to do with God. It had to do with that man, being fucked up. I guarantee that if this shooting didn't happen in an elementary school, then this same argument wouldn't be happening. It's super fucked in the ass that someone could even think of shooting up a school, let alone an ELEMENTARY school.

There's no God in it, yes, but that's because there never was.

ah yeah i think i remember him actually, did he have a ninthward icon? i definitely remember him running half the posts on some given threads lol

and yeah i guess these threads are not the place where one certain party is going to actually admit they are wrong at any given point, especially on topics like regligion / gun control / america , topics that seems to have no equilibrium.

I have questioned my and wondered, "Why is my religion the only true one?". So i looked into other religions and none of them had

1. Fulfilled Prophecies

2. Archaeological Evidence (dead sea scrolls)

3. Internal Consistency (Consistecy throughout the Bible)

4. Extrabiblical writings (other books from the Bible times that prove its true)

5. Scientific Accuracy

okay well first off jews do believe in heaven, secondly I don't think and i think i can speak for most christians that people who do good things, or recognize good and bad and choose to do good will go to heaven, and those that do bad go to hell.

1. what fulfilled prophecies? dont forget that the bible more or less implied (hard to say because of the inconsistency [point 3]) that the people who were alive at the time, especially the apostles, will live to see the 2nd coming of christ. just an example.

2. what archaelogical evidence are the dead sea scrolls? what other evidence is there?

3. you gotta be kidding me dude.

4. in which regard? josephus flavious saying that a rebel in palestine got executed? did he mention the miracles?

5. see point 3. please bring me one example.

seriously, i have nothing against people who want to have a personal religion and a personal relationship to this incomprehensible myth floating around somewhere beyond space and time. but if someone comes up and makes a list like that i am on the verge of killing myself. i am waiting for an answer to my questions, but so far, pretty horseshit post.

I truly believe this world would be a better place if the world just practiced Buddism or something similar.
