Where to Strap Ski Poles?

Hey everyone, I've been skiing for a few years and I've always just held onto my ski poles without having the strap around the wrist. This is partly because I found it inconvenient to have the straps around my wrist and also I was worried I'd get injured if I fell and have the ski poles force my arm into awkward positions (I have shoulder instability issues).

I saw someone on the slopes who attached their ski poles to their mitts and wore liners underneath. When I asked about it they said it's easy to take off their mitts and grab something from their pocket if needed and if they ever fell the poles would just pull off their mitts.

Has anyone tried this? What do you prefer and why?

just put the straps around your wrist like the rest of the skiing community...

Oh and gear talk.

That's a really stupid idea.

I can't not put on my pole straps. I always feel like I'll drop them.

Those straps are pretty dangerous. Even though they are a little annoying I haven't cut them off because they can make it easier to find your pole in the powder. Being able to just drop your pole in the trees can be a lifesaver.

Yea that's a situation where I'll probably think twice before strapping in. I mean I'd rather lose a pole then have it snagging onto a tree and pulling out my shoulder with it.

Yeah, fuck straps. I quit using them after getting stuck by one that had snapped in a longer tomahawk. Poles are cheap and can be stolen from the rental shop.
