Ft Collins is awesome, some of the best mountain biking on the front range, really cool town, my favorite lake/reservoir on the front range is basically 5 mins from town. close to some really good backcountry stuff around cameron pass. and since i70 traffic is the worst traffic on the fucking planet, you can avoid that and just drive to steamboat.
Greeley really isnt a bad area, gets a lot of shit but i spent a day there recently and its a decent town, really cheap rent.
Lyons/longmont, great mtb riding, cool area, can be close to boulder without having to live in boulder.
estes park, you're basically in RMNP, endless climbing, hiking, backcountry skiing, whatever. a little out of the way from most stuff though, touristy in the summer.

Rent is going to be kind of high because it is a college town.
Boulder is a one mans trash another mans treasure kind of town. It is expensive and filled with trustafarians, but you get a good mix of being close to the city and the mountains. Its expensive though.
Summit county is going to to be really hard to find housing in, but you'll be closer to most of the mountains.

Boulder would be dope if the real estate market wasn't so fucked. So expensive for apartments that aren't that nice imo, but easily has the hottest girls of any college town ive been to.
Fort Collins is nice but secluded from everything else.
Summit county would be boring as shit aside from the skiing.
I've lived in between boulder and denver (20 min drive to each) for the past year and rent isn't as bad. Living near the city is totally worth the hour and a half drive to key/breck on weekdays.

The traffic kind of makes where you're coming from not a big deal, because regardless, theres a good chance youll be sitting in traffic forever anyway.
I will say if I were to move somewhere on the front range again it would either be foco again because its the best town IMO, or try golden or lyons to try something new. id probably skip denver, i think its a better place to visit than live.

You can easily find a one bedroom in your price range it just takes some hunting. If you live anywhere close to Denver its going to take you about 2+hrs to get to the mountain depending on traffic.

Denver/Golden you'll mostly be looking at stuff off I-70 (Berthoud, Loveland are popular, many more options)
Boulder/Longmont you have great access to RMNP, and then can also get to stuff on I-70, just add ~45 minutes of driving depending on traffic.
I'm up in Fort Collins so Cameron Pass is about 1.5 hours away but is way less crowded than I-70 stuff, and then RMNP takes about the same amount of time to get to as well.

Currently live in Glendale. Its pretty mediocre but the dispensaries stay open till midnight instead of 7pm like everywhere else. The cherry creek trail is nearby giving me a short bike ride to downtown.
This fall Im thinking im going to get a new job in Golden and live there. Its a nice town that doesnt feel like a city and it right in the foothills of the mountains. Red rocks is right there too. Theres the new W line for their lightrail system which makes downtown denver 20 minutes and 10$ away if you want to party.
Also, feel free to hmu if you're looking for a roommate. I've got two friends who want to go in on a house with me, but they still have to graduate and find jobs so its very up in the air. Im out of school and comfortably established.
