Where to live in SLC?

Moving to SLC in November and I'm in the process of looking for an apartment. I live in NH so I'm going to be doing everything via the internet so I'm not able to check these places out before I move. Basically the issue that I'm running into is that I'll find a nice looking place on like Rent.com/KSL.com/Craigslist and it will seem all good until I search for the place on Apartmentratings.com. The places will have mostly negative comments and the main one people mention is how unsafe the area is, and how their car has gotten broken into. So where are the good parts of SLC, and where should I avoid? I heard North Salt Lake has the highest crime rate but who knows if that's true. For all of you NSers who live in SLC, do you live right in downtown, or do you live in like Murry or West Valley? Basically I'm just looking for some suggestions of nice places cause most of the ones I'm finding seem pretty sketchy. Also my budget is around $400 and I'm looking for a 2 bed room place to split with one other dude who's moving out with me. So around the $800-$900 range for both of us. Thanks

thats street

move in to somewhere on the edge of the valley so the air quality is marginally better tho for real.

not exactly sure of the prices, but if you get a place around the westminster or u areas then you can party up a storm too

Sugar house, cottonwood heights, anywhere around a freeway and east of I-15. and north of 10000 south and below 600 north.

valley and skierman are plagued with down syndrome but..check out the preserve apartments..they're in between 400/500 south on 900 east..alotta homies live in there and they're nice..i'm not sure if they do 2 bedrooms I could be wrong but I know a 3 bed is 1200 if you can find another roomate but try to stay further east...a lot of kids live in between 700east and 2300 east and anywhere south of south temple unless it's in the aves which are north of south temple (0 south) and east of west temple (0 east)

psht the new hotness is foothill.

btw west valley i WISH i could live there. not kidding. its so... cultural.

keep an eye on craigslist and ksl. Also if you are looking to try and get a place in PC, www.parkrecord.com.

Sometimes you can find sublets, but if not, sugarhouse is good, anything by the university, as well as cottonwood heights/holladay area is good. Ideally anything on a main road such as 215, wasatch blvd, and i80, you can get good transportation and to places quickly.

...dont go west valley

I live at 1300 S and 900 W. Our house is nice, but the neighborhood is definitely quite...Mexican, if you will. It's still not that bad though. No problems with break ins or anything. Just remember it's Utah. Even the "bad" parts of town are still not that bad. As much as we tell you, you will still just have to go with something, then once you live here you will learn about the city. Just remember to use Google street view to get a good feel of the actual place/area. You can never trust the ad pictures.
