Where should I move for the winter?

I taking the year off from college and looking to move to a resort town, where I can walk/ride a bus or bike to work and the slopes every day, get good skiing and make enough money to at least break even with costs of renting / eating. I don't have my own car and will probably be trying to split rent with my girlfriend.
So to all NSers out there who have ever spent a winter in a resort town. Where were you? How did it work out? Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I'm not really trying to go to the breck/vail valley of CO as that is where I go to school, and I'm going for something new.
US, Canada? AK? Europe? anyone with any experience please leave some words of wisdom.

US- alta, snowbird, brighton and solitude 4 mountains

anywhere in europe would be even sicker but might be harder to get a job because of languages unless you speak it

Michigan? Mt. Bohemia in the u.p. gets like 270 inches of powder a year. haha but really probably alta, brighton, park city....

Salt Lake City super cheap, amazing skiing, there is in fact normal beer there. I was there this winter but I blew my knee out 2 weeks in, but the 3 1/2 days I skied were the best ever.. Only downside is its a giant strip mall, and its home to worst air quality in the US.

STEAMBOAT Colorado. super chill place great snow really overlooked mountain. big terrain park. its nice, but id say whistler or someplace up there.

Canada sucks. But I hear Whistler will be nice next winter... and the place is always quiet (no line ups!)

depends what kinda skiing you want to do. i live in juneau alaska, and we have a tiny resort called eaglecrest(if you wanna call it a resort, just a few lifts and a place to eat), but the best lift access terrain in north america, seriously. we have sick shit literally everywhere right off the lift, from some of the best trees, chutes, cliffs, steeps, and a short hike to access some really really narly terrain. the last 3 years we have had amazing winters, tons of pow. on top of that you could also do what im gonna do when i finish high school at the end of december next year, get a sled and go to haines, haines has by far the sickest mountains in the world, and its only and few hour 30 dollar ferry ride away. there are tons of jobs and our encomony is way better than most of the lower 48. no lines almost all the time, even on blue bird pow days (15 mins on a really unusal busy day, and we are getting another chair this year so there wont even be that!) tons of places around juneau and on douglas island to tour if you into that, and a few with really sick terrain(amazing natural features everywhere) for sledding/sled skiiing. its a town of 30,000. so theres usually some stuff to do, and lots of chill people for the most part.

but our park is a joke, they are supposly gonna step it up this year, we will see. and there are no roads out of juneau, so you gotta fly or take the ferry to leave. just depends on what your looking for. feel free to ask me if you have any questions. oh we do have some sick urban to, but dosent compare to the mountains. i wish i could show you videos from all over, but the cam i filmed with all year got stolen with our tapes, but ill try to include the spring break edit i made, that was only filmed at eaglecrest tho and dosent show shit for what we really have for terrain.

if that video dosent work and i fail, just check out my videos in my profile, look at my photos to and you get a little idea what im talking about.

we don't call it the ice coast for nothing...

theres no way anyone would want to come to the east coast... haha

oh yeah, prices, the skiing is really cheap, like 275 for a season pass. living is kinda expensive, there is an eaglecrest bus, adn a good bus system in juneau, and from town its only like 10 mins to eaglecrest, from the mendenhall valley where i live its like 25

no kidding, ik what u mean. just given this person a cheap idea. Im moving to the west coast for college and the rest of my life by no means was i saying its better over here on the ice coast.

If you are looking for a really chill atmosphere go to fernie BC. I spent the first part of a winter there but had to move home for school. I wasn't actually living right in fernie but fairly close in a town called sparwood. Sparwood kinda sucks but fernie is awesome. It gets some sick pow and the people are really nice. It is also an amazing place in the summer. I really want to move back there. Also plenty of backcountry options. Also, castle mountain is fairly close, nelson is fairly close, and banff/golden/revelstoke is not too far.

Squaw Valley, CA
Shits so sick best terrain you could ever want plus sickest park you got any questions bout squaw just ask me

bigsky montana. there are three ski resorts right there you can work at and all of them are a great time i suggest you try to get a job and the yellowstone club and work as a liftie the benifits are awesome and then you can ski there and bigsky/moonlight plus there is some good backcountry right there.

revelstoke would be REEEEAL fun or really anywhere else in BC. of course you'd probably have to get some sort of work visa or something but living in the city kinda sucks at times, i kinda wish i was just in a small ski bum town.

just depends what you want, you gotta let us know before anyone can really suggest anything to you.

if you want the best terrain and snow by far move to alaska like i said. our park consisted of 3 rails (rainbow, A frame, and flat down), a terrible quarter pipe, and a 25 foot jump. but for me at least, theres so much other shit it dosent matter.

so let us know what you want so ns can make reasonable suggestions for you wants

If New Jersey is America's armpit, then Salt Lake City is its asshole. Place sucks, the mountains are cool though. One of the worst cities I have ever lived in.

have you ever been to jersey? it is, by far, the worst place on this earth. worse than like the worst part of africa. i shit you not

This is something I think about everyday... Saving up money to move to Revelstoke, BC. Not planning on working just skiing everyday! REVELSTOKED

just throwin it out there. i live on the outer most part of Park City from all the resorts, and it's still only 35 minutes On A Bus.. 15 min. TOPS in a car

Yeah i would definetly suggest it. I regret not taking a year off after high school to ski. It would definetly be the best favour you could do for yourself. I plan on hitting up revelstoke this winter. Looks really awesome.

Just keep in mind that Revy doesn't have a park. I say this not because I believe you need a park, I say this because this is NS.com and everyone is so in love with park, I wouldn't want to see a park rat hate their decision because they can't get their jib on.

Or Tahoe. That's where I'm going next. My physical therapist, who is the man, cannot say enough good things about Truckee and the area. Makes me want to go there so bad.

This is definitely sarcasm... Whistler would be nice but its gonna be untouchable next year with the Olympics! You can't even drive up there from Vancouver unless a property there is registered in your name.

Im interested in this too, next year i was thinking of moving to SLC but apparently it isnt that nice (except the mountains) I spent most the year in Whistler this year so next year has got to be as good, I liked the whole town aspect to it and nightlife.

Ive heard some great things about Breckenridge... true?

i think it's very nice here. i have lived here pretty much my whole life (im 17 btw) and plan on staying here and going to college. i love it, whatever you hear about mormons isn't true at all probably, its just another religion really, don't let that influence your desicion at all, there is still parties and stuff its not a big deal ata ll. i have no idea how expensive it is to live hear or anything like that since i dont have to worry about that right now but im sure it isnt that bad. there is a ton of things to do besides skiing also, it just really depends on what your looking for. if you have any questions just pm me man

^^^For sure thought about that! No need for a park when your trying to ski powder everyday. Who knows Revy is suppose to be the next Whistler so they could be starting up a park anytime.

Yeah never mind whistler is gonna suck i would say squaw or mammoth for dope terrain in the winter and awesome weather and parks in the spring.

manchester NH, we got this little place called McIntyer with a wopping 100 vertical, and it might rain or it might snow with any given storm

Kelowna BC, has Big White and Silver Star within an hour

If you work at bigwhite, you get staff accomodations for the whole winter

of check out any video of haines, like seth killing it there. mountains just like that are accessable hear, and AK is the only place. i dont know anything about living in girdwood or anchorage and skiing alyeska, from what i hear its a tamer, but bigger resort.

and our park is fun when its icy or something, but yeah dosent compare. check out my only other video in my profile nad you will see our table from 2 years ago.

the tahoe area. it has boreal, northstar, squaw, alpine, etc

the pass are pretty cheap before the season.
