I find it ironic that the second after the tsunami hit India, countries from all over the world (including the U.S.) rushed to aid them over there. AND claimed that we were not aiding enough. Now, after hurricane Katrina demolished alot of southern states here we haven't even received a fuckin band-aid in the mail.

agree 100%. People love to criticize the U.S. about anything possible, but then do the same shit they are falsey accussing of. Granted our hurricane isn't as big or deadly, it is still a BIG FUCKING DEAL

um well the us has this thing called disaster insurance and most of new orleans was covered, not saying its not cool that noones helping but we can and are the only country that can afford it

Perhaps if France offered help it would improve relations.

GB- How does having a terrorism problem prevent in participating in foreign aid.

China- How does system of gov't prevent them from offering aid? They can trade with us just fine.

Blah blah blah, its not that we necessarily need the help but "its the thought that counts". Maybe if some of these countries even offered their condolences much less their help I would feel differently.

By the way you left out a lot of countries that have the ability to lend aid. Germany, Saudi Arabia, Australia, Canada, to name a couple.

 
^i understand you completely but where is the thought from those still living rich in our own country. thats what really counts. the way weve pissed off the world lately (not bashing GWB but we have) we cant expect people to want to lend a helping hand, i dont understand why people are so gung ho to send money out when we have all the problems we need within our country, all they really want is to look good. its the people inside our great country that need to band together and get our shit right.

 
and most countries dont have armies that could really help us, they would most likely get in the way we do have the best armed forces in the world and we dont need help in that area.

 
I feel bad about what happened in the south, and i dont want to sound like a total d-bag, but these people were alittle better off than the people in india, also, the tsunami hit like a ton of bricks with no warning, where as the hurricane, was brodcasted on tv and people were told to leave. I feel that these 2 are uncomparable, but both big disasters

i'm not saying that they have but are you people positive that people haven't offered to help? i mean technically none of us are high up in the international political arena. The point is though that we really don't need help, yes it would be nice to hear the offer, however, most countries that could help us more than likely recognize our ability to work throught the situation ourselves. I know for a fact that there are thousands of commisioned officers who are being called on duty to go to new orleans and provide medical aid ( my mother being one of them) and quite frankly there is really no need for foreign doctors to come in.

I know it sounds bad and i dont wish for it, but if there was another world war or something i think it'd help things out alot(relations wise). Im sick of always hearing how this country hates this country and what not. They only say that cuz theres no real problems going on in the world to focus on so they get bored and try to point out things as problems, when they're really no big deal. The way i see it countries like, the U.S., canada, germany, france, uk, spain, etc are all just like brothers. We all bicker all the time and occasionally one of us will hit another brother then that one cries but none of the other brothers care, but just like bros in real life, when shit goes down, we'd all have eachothers back(ex. WWII). Its all really stupid if u think about.

^no real problems buddy, no disrespect but there are so many problems in the world the genocide in sudan the quagmire in iraq (opinion), the aids crisis, the israel/palestine conflict, global warming, pollution. another world war being good is the most ignorant thing i have ever heard all those people dying just so nobody dislikes each other any more just so that they hate each other another 60 years down the road, i realize sometimes war is necessary but never should it be a first option. ESPECIALLY when the world has so many other real problems.

I meant how we bicker about the U.S. being arrogant and the french smelling bad, shit like that. Like, people actually act like theres a real issue between the u.s. and France. There isnt, i was just over there this summer and theres no real hate between us but people like to pretend there is.

The reason we are more responsible for providing aid is that we have way more money than we know what to do with. For instance:

If we are going to play at "world police," we have a responsibility to give aid to countries in need, just like we apparently have a responsibility to invade a country halfway around the world that poses no threat to us.

Speaking of which, nobody's managed to give me a single reason why invading Iraq was a good move for us. I'll make it easier for you guys- imagine that Saddam actually had a modest stockpile of WMDs. Imagine he had a few warheads loaded with a biological or chemical agent, and we have complete proof of this. Now convince me why we needed to go in there.

i dont really see what they could help with...the us has it all, it would just make things more complicated.

and btw, its the canadian reserves, not the national guard, and trust me, as a member of the reserves i would have no problem going down to help out (i live in montreal) but i truly dont believe we would be able to do much to actually help.

As someone else stated in this thread, i dont think u can compare katrina to the tsunami, there extremly different in many many aspects

If you are implying that the United States should grant aid and assistance to other nations, I would agree with you. As the world becomes “smaller� with the communication revolutions and the spread of a global economy, interests outside the US become closer and more tangible. This country can’t afford not to get involved outside its borders...whether its aiding, financial, or aggressive. The United States has the largest investment of international interests in the world, they (we) have every right to try and maintain those interests.

i agree a lot with what you guys are saying but you ahv eto realize this hurricane doesnt even compare to the tsunamis. The tsunamis were unpredicable and devasted a MUCH larger area. This hurricane was predicted and people knew it was coming and got the fuck out.

i think you guys miss the point, we dont NEED help. yes it would be aprreciated but it is not necessary. and by the way not only our economy will be affected by this because we drive the world economy. and to the person that said china uses a lot of gas they dont use nearly as much as us they use public transportation and ride bikes. and say GB acted all high and mighty like they were the best shit since the god damn toaster oven, everyone here would be like fuck you. were not helping. and i understand that its not all our fault that other countries dont like us but a lot of it is so stop being a bunch of pretentious bastards and taking the high road in avoiding the fact that we are being greedy in expecting help when lots of other countries have som damn big problems to deal with themselves..

I heard some countries have offered to help in what ways they can. I am happy now. We didn't need the help but the offer is what was important.
