Where does the term gaper come from?

Well, look up the word 'gape' in the dictionary: "to stare with open mouth, as in wonder". So a gaper would be a person who does that. In other words, people who stand around and watch, not do.

Gaper: as in the first post. Someone who stares in awe/is dumbfounded by everything.
Gaper gap: The gap between the gogs and toque/helmet on a clueless gaper

As far as I know it came from tahoe. It's spelled Gayper. We used it as reference to all the Gay area (Bay area) people coming to tahoe way back in the day.

GO HOME GAYPER!!!

the worst is when you see little kids with the dopest setups. g-suits, sick one-pieces, 700 dollar skis, crowbars etc. but then they have the largest gaper gap of all time.

spoiled little kids.....

they always ask the questions "how do you guys ski with your pants so low? dosent it bother you? " and they think in their mind i wish i culd be hat cool.

Being called a gaper is NOT a good thing. It's the guy who does pizza wedge and french fries all the way down the park and has a massive gap between their hat and goggles.

truth. ie the texan who stands around in the way at the top of the lift and gapes at the mountain scenery with his mouth open

Yeah but with that google helmet clevage or gap .... alot of kids in the park i see rockin that look with the beani underneath .... i wouldnt consider them gappers
