Where does the progression end?

We've accelerated quite rapidly through the decades in terms of progression. Triple flips have become a more common aspect in pro edits, 810ing out of a rail is no longer a part of the commonly unseen, and apparently swaps 540+ are plausible, but when you put in perspective and drop back a few years in time, we realize that at that these tricks seemed out of reach and unthinkable. My question is where do we stop? Where do we peak in our sport's progression? Will we see quads or whatever the hell kind of unimaginable flips/spins comes next. I believe our progression must reach a capping point unfortunately in the near future, otherwise we are facing much more dangerous risk than ever before.

There's still a lot of room for more creativity. There will ALWAYS be room for more creativity.

And pipe will probably see a huge progression with more left and right doubles in a single run, and more unique(hopefully) doubles come the Olympics.

Also, urban will continue to grow, Stept will push the envelope even further with sheer size and scare factor. If you look at skateboarding and snowboard urban and see how different and more mature it is than the majority of ski urban, you'll see where I'm coming from. Just a few years ago all ski urban consisted of was rails and the occasional wallride/bomb drop.

its kinda like skating where people have been doing gnarly shit forever but it just kinda changes around, like skating has gotten more gnarly but it doesnt have to get more gnarly, you can be finesse

the longer youre in the air the more time you have to spin.

i think it stops when people start going so big that a botched landing = death.

and we aren't quite there yet.

When progression turns to regression

Partially joking, partially legit, on a tramp if you set a normal (not true) flat 3 (side flip with backflip), and rather than looking around for your landing, you just keep looking forward, you will set a rodeo but it will turn into an under flip. In other words a rodeo 180. It looks interesting...

Progression won't end. Personally I think we'll see more tricks like:

Switch flat 360 (maybe even 540+)

More dub bios. Possibly triples in the future

Double and triple underflips.

Triple cork 1080

540 swaps will become more common on rails/boxes

Flips off rails and boxes will become even more common (see: jesper)

1. no, it's just an underflip 52. underflips aren't new

and I am going to spark a new progression this year when I start taking off my skis in the air like in SSX on tour.

do monster tricks->get sponsored by monster->become superpro-> break ankles->become washed up rastafarian

IMO the way things have gone thus far in our sport is that the pros do a trick then a few years later you have younger kids doing them and it's less of a huge deal. It's sort of like breaking the ice. IMO at some point the tricks are going to become so unbelievably difficult and dangerous and require such a huge or specialty park that the masses of kids who cant triple are going to start doing some more creative stuff. But a question I have is, at what point does all this flipping just start to look like aerial skiing with rap in the background

i feel like butters aren't that popular even though they look sick, maybe this will become more common

K fine, but it'll just be a kinky ass lookin underflip. I'll try it if i'm feeling yolo, but for now I will just sit on my couch, behind a screen, and support you. You should definitely do some kickflips on your skis.

PS that joke sincerely made me laugh
