Where does the power in spins come from?

I try and try and try, but when im in ski's i cant spin more than a 180 while stationary, which is sloppy and nothing close to grace full, and even while hitting a jump my 360's look pitifully put together with body parts flailing around. what can i do to help stabilize myself and get a quicker more powerful rotation

Start your rotation with your hips and not your arms. Use your core to help start the rotation.

Also Spot it helps a ton. And try jumping on a tramp and spinning alot. it helps you get your spinning down.

other than training off snow, you need to build strength in your legs to hit the jump and your upper body to spin. if you use your arms to wind up, your spin will look hucked, but if you spin with your shoulders and your hips, you'll have a smoother motion.

use your arms, but dont wind up. have them out to your sides, then just pop about 15degrees left or right off the jump. spot your landing as you come around.

That's really good info.

Thank you very much. I will have to go try this. ++++ K man. I wondered what i was doing wrong.

Thanks again

just keep doing them and you'll start to get the feel for them, if you just started doing them of course they won't be pretty, repetition and muscle memory my friend

All the power for flips and spins comes from your core muscles (AKA abs, obliques, and lower back). In order spin faster you need to set your spin, pop hard with your legs, and use your upper body to whip around. So the things you want to work on most is lower body and core if you want to spin faster.

Wow, this thread was really helpful. My spins always look sketch as fuck, and now I know why.

+K guys.

i had a very hard time getting grabs in to my spins, so if you learn or re-learn how to spin properly, dont even try to grab. just learn to set and land your spin and the rest will be st-easy.

oh, and this is also the technique for setting a real cork 3, you can do them with no wind-up.
