Where does Freeskiing and action sports go from here?

So.. guys are now doing quad corks on snowboards... they are doing triple back flips on Dirt bikes, attempting quad flips on BMX bikes, doing 1080's on skateboards.. guys jumping 300 foot + on dirt bikes and after LEvinthal gap 10 years ago.. (150 step down for all those who have never heard of it) how much further can progression go? Every one says progression is limitless.. I beg to differ... will we see a Quint Cork? (so lame in my opinion 90% of triples already look pretty hucked)

I am not hating on huge spins, multiple flips or progressing action sports..

but im curious as to how far people think we can push the human body with out us just disintegrating upon landing.. thoughts ideas ect... please don't just say "Progression is limitless... casue we all know it does have a limit..no one is ever going to be doing 6 flips.. and if they do well they are going to need a jetpack to get enough speed to hit a jump large enough to pull one off..

It would be cool to see massive jumps again. The JOI and WCS are about as big as things get these days. A 200 foot pow jump would be neat.

The whole triple/quad thing in other sports just makes everyone "hurry up and wait," because only a select few will do those on specific steep as fuck jumps once. It won't become commonplace for a while.

Progression on the presentation side of things will certainly occur.

Engineers park designers and snowcat operators working hand in hand to build the largest physically hittable features.

As well we will get all of these new stunts in amazing 4K resolution.

Cinematography, feature and trick creativity will all take a forefront to the ever increasing number of spins and flips.

I also predict further additional equipment revolutions will occur meaning lighter boots, lighter skis, etc. The impact on the sport will be massive.

The next step is to try it at a higher consequence situation. You are right that you can only spin and flip so many times but you can aways set up to do the trick in a more dangerous situation.

I think were going to seek less of the huge spins of huge jumps, unless big air just turns into aerials. Seems to me super technical tricks are is the way of the future, stuff life flipping on and off of rails, crazy transfers and creative terrain parks. We are also seeing a lot of progression in the whole all mountain freeride/freestyle category.

On an individual scale though, for as long as we have snow, kids will continue to throw rodeo 5 japans and just have fun with their friends and our sport will continue to grow.

I feel like the deal with quad or even quintiple flips/corks is similiar to creating new chemical elements. In both you need big, tailored and expensive features. A jump or a particle accelerator. The result is there for a very little time, then its gone. Something new has happened. Of course, in extreme sports the trick will be filmed and in science the result will be listed and the world will know. Still, it was performed only once or maybe twice and it will never be something that is performed elsewhere. Doing stuff like that doesn't really matter, its just doing something just for doing something new.

I think the situation where a new trick is done is pretty much main thing in progression. For example, tony hawks 900 and tom schaars 1080. Both are amazing tricks, but the 900 was/is bigger deal. Because it was done in a competition, in a vert ramp. The 1080 was done in a megaramp's QP which has way more airtime and space to do it.

Example of progression is Harlauts NB trip 1620. Done in a big air competition and no special made obstacle (only for this trick). Bit later, HH lands it in a slopestyle run. He's still only one who has done that trick though.

Just my thoughts, probably didnt even make sense but no way in hell im gonna not post this after typing on a phone.

Sry for double post, just wanted to add that i only talked about doing neat stunts on that one, of course there is different kind of progression like creativity and style. Which are more important IMHO.

I always think that people will find new ways of applying the massive tricks once we hit a progression ceiling. Like maybe the future of skiing is like hand drag triple cork 1530 on a hip and big tricks on weird features

honestly its so fucking hard to gauge now. we said triples, let alone quads were not possible probably less than 5 years ago, now we are here making threads asking everyone "whats next?". it really does seem like sky is the fuckin limit for progression.

whatever happens, I just hope we all don't lose touch with why we all ski, or our roots. from comp skiers to a gang of kids just stacking clips, we all do it for shits and gigs and it would be very disappointing to see skiing become more serious than it really should, (Eherm, FIS)

dead fucking wrong. I hope you're ready to eat your words. It ain't ever gonna stop. triple twisting quad flip in 1983? and where has skiing gone now? one day someone will land a quint flip. or spin like it was 1980. progression will never stop.

A 1980 isn't far off didn't schlopy try one at games when everyone was doing their first triples so he just spun to win
