Where do you put your hands?

Where do you put your hands while you ski? park skiing none of that racer shit. Also state if your using poles or not.

right on your mother's breasts...

nah, but usually just at my side with my poles behind me. really don't think about it often

I thought about this yesterday while i was skiing.. i don't try but i kind of keep them like in a boxing position.. lol. it seems like it would feel weird but it looks good

oh and i use poles so they kind of point down and out

Lightly bent at my waist. I have poles and I try to keep those pointing towards the ground but when I'm trying new stuff they are pointed up at the sky and waving around like antennae

i don't really "put" my hands, they just sort of hang there unless i need to use my poles or i need to wave them around to keep balanced. the only times i really consciously use my hands are when doing grabs or moguls.

A. Just cruisin, somewhere in between pole plants and by my side

B. Bombing runs, I lean forward and put my hands on my kneecaps

C. Bumps and Trees I'm doing pole plants

D. No poles I'll just hold them near the pocket on my hoodie, Or do B without poles

E. Pretend I'm Henrik or Phil and (try) and ski bumps/trees without poles

after reading the responses, i feel like a lot of people have horrible form. if you hold them at your side, you are most likely not pressuring the front of your boot and being aggressive, and are most likely skiing backseat

you know, it IS possible to stand correct without any help from your hands...

i could ski w my hands behind my back and still flex my boots and stay forward and balanced...they just 'help' a bit

get outta the PSIA mindset it'll ruin your fun

Also if you are on a center mounted ski, leaning forward is not nearly as important as with the traditonal mounting I have found. Personally I cant carve my center mounted skis unless I am in a true neutral stance, If I lean forward I wash my tails out.

As far as hand position goes though, I think as long as you know how to ski with 'correct' form, it doesnt really matter. When you are hitting the trees or the bumps, if you are ridin all steezy, you are doing it wrong. Hands up with pole touches for all mountain, hands low and in the front for park, as pictured. Standin tall switch onto the drop of the park.

i dunno, i always ski frontseat when i'm going downhill, i just don't need my hands to do so?

I ski a lot of big mountain type stuff and not center mounted so I ski with my hands up in front of me. those of you who are saying "i don't need my hands to lean forward" are missing out because it really helps your balance and allows for more stability at speed

Honestly, who really cares? Put your hands somewhere because it's comfortable, not because we said you'd be cooler for putting your hands in the right position.

when we start up the magic carpet we tell the little kids "hands on your knees!" this gives you maximum balance and they don't fall backwards when we start it up

I put my hands by my side, I see to many fools skiing with their poles horizontal and way out in front of them attempting to look cool.

i use poles and go no poles. depends on what im feeling. and usually by my side but i really dont pay much attention
