how far are you from the mountains? my family is moving to OC/ newport area from cleveland ohio and i want to get some info from those of you who live around that area. how often do you get to ski? how do you like it? and do you like living in cali?

im asking because i might end up staying in ohio and finishing up college since were keeping our house here, so ill have a place all to myself. or ill just end up moving and finishing up school somewhere in cali. im stuck in a pickle

There are a couple, my friend lives down in socal and he said the cloest place around newport/oc area is mt high

forgot to mention, if you do move down to newport/oc my friend said mt high and big bear are technically almost the same but the road to mt high you can haul ass doing 80mph but you cant do it on the road to big bear cuz its all curves and stuff.

im in sf

ya mt high is probably your best beti live in sacramento and ive made it to boreal in an hourthe good skiiing is in norcal

mountain high is siiicckk! no joke, last night was knee deep gladed skiing under the ambient light of the clouds. unlike bear, it is legit on a pow day. plus their park is looking A+

heh yeeeah reppin the 916. Yeah your options are pretty limited in newport and LA, I'd agree with Mt. High and Bear. Maybe Mammoth if you're up for a long ass ride.

you guys make mammoth seem like its so far from socal.
Really, 4 hours isn't that bad especially when you are coming from Ohio. Trust me, the skiing in CA is going to be 100x better than what you have in Ohio or in Michigan/Vermont/other places that are drivable.
In the OC you have access to Snow Summit/Bear, Mt High, Mt Baldy, Mammoth, June, and if you want to party hard and maybe ski... Tahoe.
That, and if you live here a year, tuition is cheaper than Ohio. Even UCLA is like $9000 in state. A CSU is only like $3000 a year. It was cheaper for me to pay out of state 2 years and instate 2 years than stay in state in Minnesota.
Check out some websites. Look at the community on the mt high forum. Realize that you could go surfing, go to class, then go skiing all in the same day.

Or stay in Ohio.

haha yeah im moving for sure, dates havent been set yet but i will be in cali by next year. pretty pumped to get into surfing, ive done it once ( in thailand) couldnt really do much besides stand up and go straight, but i can def get into it. surfing and sking in the same day sound pretty much perfect to me.

4hrs is not a big deal at all haha, ive driven farther for big boulder (6hrs) just to hit some legit jumps that dont exist around here. plus im one of those people who enjoy driving, esp with a few friends with you. good times.

School in SF sucks compared to Seattle. I used to ride 5 days a week on average - night skiing until 10 and 45 minutes outside the city. Park was all lit up and pretty dope.... I sure didn't come here for the skiing though.

4 hours from where? Mammoth is closer to 5.5 hours from downtown LA (USC) when i set cruise on 76 MPH.

that being said, mammoth is sick and well worth the drive compared to the shitty resorts close to LA. Keep in mind, its practically mexico, so the skiing and snow are gonna be different.

I come from pennsylvania and currently live in marina del rey in LA. it's an upgrade from pittsburgh, but not without its drawbacks. (1200$ /mo rent, traffic, expenses, stuck up and insecure people, etc). But so cal is pretty rad.

nice to see other people on here reppin sactown. i just moved down from tahoe to sac for school, but i still find myself at sierra and kirkwood every weekend.

im litreally at kirkwood as i type this hah i live here

but as for socal scene, mt.high for sure place is legit on park never been there on a pow day though

if you moving out to cali i would recommend at least once this year taking some time off from whatever you do during the day and making a trip up north to tahoe and back down hitting all the mountains on the way cuz there all sicker than most people think. ive lived here my whole life and nothing at any mountain seems to get old.

ahahaha thats true. however them LA cats dont like it much anyways when the word "hella" is used. it pisses them off as it does me when a motherfucker drops the term DGAF

i say hella all the time down there, and they shit bricks"bro, that word isnt in my vocab, im gonna go shred some gnar gnar waves bro.....rad"

basically all the sierras have resorts your going to be good if you come to cali, i shred the Bear Valley

i live about an 1 hour and a half from the oc and the closest mountains you have is mtn. high bear mountain june and mammoth and i think mtn high is the closest and its easy to get to if you take the 15 but its kinda of a small mountain

id have to disagree, any powder either at bear or mt.high is shitty period and if you try to say differently you're just kidding yourself, go to bear, its worth the extra distance and there park is way better, and plus its southern california , so honestly the snows shitty but bear at least has a pretty fun park, thats about all your gunna get down here...=(

The only bad thing about hella my friend, is that once you say it everyone can tell your from the.....how do I put this nicely?....."less exciting" half of California. Well, maybe "the half with lower quality weed"? "The gayer half?" Either way...

Oh and for OP, OC is like probably a good 2-3 hours from Mt High depending on if its like actually city of orange or anaheim or whatever.

OC is cool to live in though, good weed, hot chicks, and nice weather. But yeah I'd maybe take up surfing or something.

dude. i live in irvine right next to newport and last season i was driving up to bear every week. its not that bad of a drive. 2 - 2.5 hours depending on how long it takes you to drive up the mountain.

same pretty much depends on weather and such but usually about 4ish hours but i prefer to go to squaw

4 hours of driving each way for half a year would probably start to annoy me, haha. I'm sure it's worth it though.

No not really. Frisco has excellent quality bud, (and an amazing medical scene) but everything north of that tends to be larger outdoor grows. Humbolt, for example, tends to have average quality weed. Everything down here is indoor, more controlled, and generally better. My buddy moved up north a couple months ago because up there his weed sold better, down here its still excellent but so is everything else.

NorCal is hella touchy.

I'm not saying NorCal has shitty weed, I'm just saying that you guys have more large scale outdoor grows and we have more small scale indoor grows, so the percentage of really good designer weed is lower by comparison.

And seriously everything I've gotten from Humbolt has been pretty average, and I had a buddy go to college up there so I used to be smoking it pretty much on the reg because it was so much cheaper than weed I got down here.

I do know a guy from Santa Cruz that grows legit the best Bubba I have ever smoked in my life though, and Bubba can be really hard to pull off sometimes because if its not top notch then its not very good. But you know, he lives in LA now, so there you go.

Amsterdam imports weed from Nor Cal.
And anyone in the world could grow indoor shit, but it takes a special place to grow it naturally.

Northern California and Oreganj have the best weed in the United States. Especially of sativa varieties which do better outdoors, not all indoor is superior.

well there was this one time i was suppose to meet up with this one kid but that didnt work out but yes i have since relocated to a lesser mountainous area in the east. asshole. sadface.
