Where did Tomahawk International go?

A select few might remember this brand (considering you weren't born past 2005, like a lot of you little shits on here), Ian Compton was one supporter that put me onto the brand. I never payed much attention to them, but seeing some of their gear in edits and videos brought them to my attention. Idk why I thought about them, but i looked them up today and the website is updated to the 17/18 season, and the instagram is dead.

I vaguely remember some beef with Compton from them not paying athletes (so rare), somebody might remember more than me about that.

Anybody got any info or anything? Death certificate or obituary?

Checked in with jimbo Morgan on facefoose a couple months back.......

Kinda went in on him, tomahawk, and parker white, he snapped said he was coming to summit county for me!!!!

glad someone remembers, I was all in on tomahawk but was so confused what happened to them. those hockey jerseys were elite and the jacket i got from them was top tier, and i still be rockin their tees in the summer. if anyone wants my tomahawk jacket let me know lol would love to pass it on to someone who knows

Always feel like I missed out on Tomahawk as a grom, wish I would've gotten some during the glory days. Hockey jersey's were all time. They ran a great deal on snowpants at one point too that I wish I had capitalized on

I guess we've come a long way if this kind of branding was considered OK less than a decade ago:

Ha I was just looking for some pants yesterday as mine are getting pretty hammered. Looks like they are done. Pants aren't very good, but I liked repping the brand. Jimbo has done right by the sport for sure!

i forget but this has some info if you're interested in reading
https://www.newschoolers.com/forum/thread/847313/Parker-White-Leaves-Tomahawk-

Woah that was hell of a niche ski rabbit hole I just went down lol.

In rough chronological order seems like:

-Jimbo is an OG freeskier and Parker White and Chris Logan (among others) love him. most people are stoked on tomahawk

-mild controversy on NS about basically branding the entire company off native stereotypes

-apparently nobody gets paid and P White leaves for 686

-quote from Jimbo to Ian: "when youre booted from your home and living in your van, think of me, okay? knowing you disrespected someone who truly went up to bat, and spit in your face. What I will say is this, I mean it from the bottom of my cold, black heart: Fuck you Ian Compton"

-Logan Imlach backs up Ian's story, said basically the same happened to him

-brand more or less disappears?

I remember seeing people rock it in like '17 in Tahoe and thought it was cool then, but man now it just seems like it was a total shitshow

it's funny, I have a tomahawk jacket and didn't think much of the branding at the time. Glad that skiers have more or less realized that jacking native american imagery and art is wack.

i have an OG tomahawk hockey jersey if anyone wants it.

i was "sponsored" by them briefly towards the end of their run lol

the jackets/pants were honestly terrible quality

take what im about to say as a grain of salt cuz im honestly not sure if this is how it went down, but;

parker was kinda over the brand and wanted out, but i think he was a co owner of sorts along w/ jimbo. once parker left it was entirely up to jimbo to run shit, he just wasnt really in tune with free skiing culture like parker is/was, and he kinda shit the bed when the company was left in his hands. im also pretty sure they werent paying dudes who were supposed to be getting paid.

which one did u have? never really got cultural appropriation vibes from any of the outerwear......

unless u consider the tomahawk logo to be such *which i'd disagree*

will say in hindsight tho it was a little weird for the brand to be run entirely by white dudes

I bought a second hand black button up windbreaker a few years back. I liked tomahawk because they sponsored a lot of riders who I really liked.

I agree that I don't really consider the logo or the name to be cultural appropriation. I think people can take inspiration from a lot of different places and, although some may disagree with me on this, I don't think that naming a company after something from a different culture is a bad thing. I guess you could call it cultural appreciation rather than appropriation. I see it as an issue when a company runs with it too far, and different people have different ideas about what constitutes "too far." I think Vishnu is a good example of doing it the right way because they don't use images of the god Vishnu to sell skis and they only used Native American artwork when it was commissioned. The issue I have is basically what you said: a brand entirely run by white dudes that uses a lot of Native American imagery (ex. the illustration of a native american warrior who just scalped some settler dude)
