there is a big verbal fight over where freestyle skiing {or freeskiing} came from. was it A. moguls B. skiboarding C. racers just starting there own thing or D. we just arouse from somewhere and we called ourselfs freeskiers? what do u think?

it came from the hearts of weed smoking hippies who wanted to transfer their love of acid and harmony into teh mountains

stien erikson was kinda the first, doing flips off of cliffs, wayne wong was a actual crazy freestyle hot dogger, then there was me!

Isn't everything freeskiing. I mean, if you're not running gates, and just cruising around and doing what ever feels good like airs and stuff. People have been doing that shit forever! Freeskiing!

yeah, i'm pretty certain it was started by seal hunters thousands of years ago. they would kill a seal and then celebrate by going to the halfpipe and trying to learn new tricks. they also progressed hardcore by learning how to do a 3/4 heli onto a rail with a 1 1/4 heli off. definitely sweet stuff.

probably some dude that did crazy tricks and then he wanted to design a ski that he can go down the hill backwards on...rofl..and then he looked and a snowboard and made twin tip skis out out it.

norwegians duct taping boards to their feet?

Freeskiing is what it started as...It evolved into all this other crap.If you have skis on your feet and your moving you are "Freeskiing".

what if i'm not moving? you can't tell me i'm not "freeskiing"! it's "modern freeskiing"... seriously, it's the wave of the future. you might want to jump on the bandwagon because cool kids do this.

obviously it came from snowboarding. i dunno wanna look like some shitty mogul skier with no steeze. we get our gangsta steeze and image from snowboarding and it would suck any other way cause snowboarding is so freakin dank!

definately a new trend on the horizon..Not moving is the only way to go!!it's hard to have good steeze if your not moving, only the best can pull it off!

well, all i gotta say is freestyle peeing... like no handed, running while doing it, u know all those kick ass peeing stuff

it started many years ago in a time called the seventies win all your parents pushed the sport into what evetualy would become today

Heart Skis made a ski in 1970 that was a 175 with sidecut and a fully twinned but it was laughed off the market. It was so ahead of it's time and it skied great but it was too short for the current ski culture. Then if you read the Line Story Jay Lev and some of his buddies started filming urban rails in vermont in like 1992. Sadly Skiboards is probably the best answer of the possibles listed in the original question however.

It started in mogals, aerials. Mostly aerials. Many guys set out to invent new tricks and forms of tricks. Mike D. and the 3 phils were the starting of the freeskiing revolution.

i hate to say it but i think johnny mosely had alot to do with the newschool movement. i mean come on, mute 3, the "dinner roll" (first off axis spin). i guess he kinda did it accidentally since he doesnt really keep up with it, but id say he has a great deal of responsibility for our style of skiing.

no man, it was all about mike douglas shane szocks being the first skiers to ride the pipe at COC. It pretty much started with skiboarding, then it just moved up to skiing. But twin tip skiing, and the theory of it is from Ballet skiing. the style is more from mike douglas, and JF cusson who is considered by many to be the father of new school.

twin tip skis all came about around the same time by line, salomon, dynastar, and K2. These were pretty much the only guys out there with tiwns. the first new schoolers only wanted on set of skis, those were the 1080s.

It all started in Voss/Norway... Crazy farmer boys bend their skis like twintips and jump from cliffs... This was early in the 70s i think...

Snowboarders. we owe the progression of skiing to the popularity of snowboards. Sking wouldn't be where it is today with out snowboarders challanging the ski industry.

my uncle swears it was like the 1970's at bogus basin when they would go, and i kid you not this is what he said, "250 up in the air!"
