When will there be more backcountry freestyle skiers

I rarely see people doing a lot of natural hits in movies. I know that Idea was full of them, but seriously...those were only 6 skiers or so in a culture of people dedicated to snow. I understand that it's incredibly difficult to throw a kangaroo flip off a 50 footer cliff. Duh. Because of this, people who throw off-axis spins, and inverts like rodeos/mistys and even just nice simple 3's/switch stuff off natural features should be on the scene in films more than they are. I've seen a ton of talent out on the mountain and nobody exploits it. It's a shame.
 
I feel companies would rather spend their money and time building jumps or doing urbans that would get them 4 times as many shots as doing natural hits. You can only hit a natural hit so many times and if you're lucky get one or two shots. Unless its all you do, its tough when it comes to making movies, keeping budget and producing enough shots for the next film they are making.
 
Because the money is still in the park scene, and not everyone is out there playing in pow.

But I agree, doing mini golf lines and tricks in the BC is a lot harder and higher consequences than many park setups.
 
Right, but look at Yeah Dude. The opening segment was basically just a couple dudes playing around on a mini-golf line. They had a sled, but the line didn't look like it took that long to hike. There are plenty of natural hits in places like the PNW and Utah/Colorado/Tahoe, and many more, the riders just have to be creative in how they hit them. There is so much more of an opportunity to film in the backcountry than there is in the park, seeing as how most of the angles/techniques have been explored in the manmade environment.
 
As of this season I officially consider myself more of backcountry freestyle enthusiast. So you can count me in.
 
what is there to be ashamed of, park is fucking cool. Watching people take powder runs and jump cliffs for a whole movie gets boring gahbviously so they film park shit cus the progression is mad crazy right now.
 
I think as some of the athletes who are dominating the scene right now get older they will head to the backcountry like Tanner, because it gets harder skiing park as you get older more vulnerable to injuries and such where pow is nice and soft
 
Tell me how it's retarded. There are a bunch of filmers from the west, many of them are on newschoolers. Many of them film pretty much only in the park or on bc booters. Maybe more of them could expand their horizons?
 
i think it has and will continue to get bigger. think of movies like happy dayz and shit like that....all park pretty much, now there is a pretty good mix
 
they are there, its just not as noticeable, because filming requires so much more energy.

Take the Gus Kenworthy Telluride edit for example -- amazing park skiing in one day. To be able to produce a BC edit on that level would require a few months.
 
PussyFooter has a point with keeping the films on budget and having to film in the backcountry must get pretty expensive when you count in the heli-drops and all the shit thats required just to film out in more remote areas. But seeing more freestyle backcountry shots would be nice, Morrison and Pollard seem to get the shot so i don't see why others couldn't take their segments to the steeps and outta the park.
 
you dont hVE TO HELI drop alot of bc stuff.

theyres at, sleds straight up hiking,

also in the pnw theres steeps, cliffs trees etc. in-bounds and lift accessed
 
bc booters and park are dope same with natural jibs but just watching ski pow and pillow lines for a long time gets boring

next year im gonna learn tricks in the backcountry :)
 
as of this year i definitely consider myself more of a bc skier and i agree. but its harder for a huge crew to setup their cams and get sick shots in the bc then park
 
what about a mix of both, that is why Bushfield and Abma are my favorite skiers b/c they kill it in both
 
im sure alot more people want to do it. but its expensive and time consuming.
 
pussys... go huck a switch rodeo 5 off a cliff and stomp that shit into multiple feet of varing degrees of snowpack and tell me that the levels of technicality between stomping a switch rodeo 5 in the park and in the bc are the same... then just be ready for my dick in yo mouth...
 
...nowhere in this entire thread did anyone even mention the difficulty of park compared to backcountry, let alone said that park was harder.

do you just have an insatiable desire to argue?
