When to buy skis?

Most skis are on sale now. Just before the start of next season all 15/16 skis will be on sale. Just depends if you care enough for this years of next years models.
 
Generally there are big sales at the end of the season (March/April) since many stores want to sell all of their ski stuff before they change over to summer equipment like bikes or beach stuff. There are also usually good sales on last years equipment when the next years equipment comes in (August-November). Honestly anytime in the offseason is a pretty good time to buy, and the only time you'll have a hard time finding sales is during peak season. I swear evo always has some type of sale going on for ski stuff in the offseason, so check there if you know what you want and you know the size. Last year I think they had a labor day sale, which is probably going to be the next big one they have. So, yes, now is a great time to start looking.
 
It really comes down to if you want to get the exact perfect ski for you or if you want to get somthing cheap. Buying at the start of the season will give you the most selection and range of sizes and the possibility of demoing will hopefully be quite high. If you buy out of season the selctio will be more limited and you may not be able to fin the exact ski you want and it may be hard to demo But you will save money.

To add to it. evo.com outlet usually has a really good selection and price structure on out of year skis between Dec 1st and 25th.

If you have something specific you are looking for, or want the latest in innovation. Buy around Labor Day weekend, when you can usually get 10% off in season gear.
