When the fuck did freestyle skiing become so 'gangster'?

after seeing all these steeze bags this sesason thus far, im glad that i wear a flannel shirt and 25 dollar ski pants
 
traditionally the urban/gangsta baggy look was because kids from the streets would get hand down from their older brothers because they couldn't afford buying their own stuff. the look just cought on and it became the start of the gangsta look.

and i guess kids like to wear baggier stuff while skiing. down to yo ass is comfy to some.

newschool skiing isn't gangster its just a large group of people representing themselves through skiing. what you see is what we have to put out.
 
Baggy cloths = gangster right?

Comfortable cloths (to most) = baggy cloths

Comfortable cloths = gangster?

Hip hop = gangster

music with good beats to ski to = hip hop

skiing = gangster?

Neither of those work. If we were truely tryin to be thuggin we'd carry nines like ninthward. The fact that some freeskiers like hip hop/rap and like comfortable baggy cloths doesn't make then gangsters. You need to learn to not generalize due to one thing like baggy cloths.
 
my question is when did the slopes become a fashion show, people seem to care more about the brands your wearing then actualyl skiing.
 
i dont have a problem with big clothes.... its the people that are convinced that they talk like a black person when its so obvious to everyone, including themselves, that they are rich white boys who REALLY talk just like their elite, and arrogant parents... unless u grew up in the heart of the hood and had no white friends, it doesnt matter how good uve gotten with ebonics, u look and sound like a fool...
 
Dressing a certain way doesnt bother me. Its when the people actually ACT Ghetto and do shit like make guns with their hands and shoot it at the cameras. If wear baggy shit, cool, but dont act ghetto. I would love to see some of these guys get dropped in the ghetto all alone and see how ghetto they really are and see if they act the same as they do on the mountain. Yea.
 
uuhh.. you shouldnt really care what you look like or what you do.. or what other people think when they see you. so stop saying "they should get dropped in the ghetto" becuase it is what it is.. you gotta seperate yourself from all the fuckin hacks and gaypers.. and when your this good you gotta act thuggin mo fucka!
 
I can´t tell about the situation in US, but here in Austria, where we usually have nothing to do with "Gangsta", it seems that this trend tends to swash over the sea.

When I went glacier skiing in november a guy came over to me greeting me with "nigga what"...
 
Baggy pants and jackets make tricks look smoother, Plus there are a lot of good skiers that aren't all gangster, Tanner Rainville, Charles gangier, Mark abma could go on forever
 
agreed but what does no white friends have to do with it... i grew up in philadelphia and there are sketchy places where most ppl are white

Just because someone's hung like a horse doesnt mean that their a pornstar. So just because we wear XXL doesnt mean we're gangster man. We're skiers thats all there is to it
 
i like to listen to hip hop and i wear baggy clothes on/off the hill. i like basketball so i wear jerseys on/off the hill. i guess some would consider me "gangster" but i dont roll around with a 9 bustin caps nor do i act like thats what i do.

stop hating on "gangster" skiers. the clothing doesnt make the douchebag. douchebags come dressed in all forms and until you know them stop hatin on them.

i hate douches but it has nothing to do with clothing or skiing or snowboarding or style
 
how is that rediculous? Almost every skier I have seen has been some white kid. And you have to admit, it takes a big bank to afford skiing.
 
it is a traditionaly white sport (switzerland, the alps, europe, )i dont know what you are talking about when you say asian skiiers (not in america) or the south (theres no snow in the south) and you have to admit... skiing is expensive and who has most of the money in america... the middle/upper class white people.

im not saying its right, but its mostly true...
 
he probably meant south as in south america maybe?? plus on weekends theres just as many asians as whites at creek. I'm not standing up for them but its true, go to a tourist resort
 
yea... i have been to south america (not the whole thing but parts of it) and they dont have a skiing industry. they dont even have like one lift in the whole continant.

as for the asians there might be a bunch of them at tourist resorts, but for the most part i would say there are more whites that asians.
 
i wear baggy clothes and listen to tons of rap. am i gangster? no. im just expressing myself. let people be who they want to be and dont hate others because there not exactly like you

Lad(ies), the facts state that 90% of rap music is purchased by the white male demographic. Gangsta stylze is no surprise if you consider the demographics in skiing.
 
its a trend, for some people at least. some people like rap and big clothes including myself but that doesnt meani think im gangster. i grew up 10 minutes from dc, im not some rich white kid from aspen or vail or something trying to be thug. i just have a lot of respect for the hip hop culture and a lot of my friends back home are black(no way this cant be possible i ski, and have black friends!?!?! impossible). I like the style of it and enjoy the music, normally when u like and enjoy something you emulate it. thats what everyone does, you see something you like and you try to emulate it in certain instances. Now granted i even agree that its going to far meaning 2/3 of edits now are gangster with the shittiest skiing. those kids are trying to do somehting they like, i think it looks like shit unless its done well but you know there trying to do what they think looks good. Thats one of the downsides of ns, people see everything that goes on in the ski community and half the time the kids live where theres barely any snow and spend a ton of time thinking about what they see on this site. its gonna constantly go on every year with new trends that everyone does because they like it.

this might not of made sense to you, but it did to me so.

i like being able to go to school in a fitted tshirt and jeans and such and then go to the mountain a couple hours later and switch into my xxl snowpants and tall tee. it's not gangster, it's just comfortable, just like everyones been saying.

it shouldn't even be "skiing is this" or "skiing is that". style in skiing has become its own thing, so its not gangster or emo or anything, its a whole other dimension. steeze is what you make it
 
that is also something i never understood, i dont get why big clothes and not having oodles of money means your black? it seriously pisses me the fuck off. i like baggier clothes and rap music, im below middle class and i am white. fuck off.
