When the fuck did freestyle skiing become so 'gangster'?

oh yeah your saying skiing is generally white and hip hop is black. Sorry but i didnt know music had a color? I have to be black to enjoy rap? I also enjoy lots of rock and classical shit, if i was black would that be wrong?
 
when i see a kid wearin the full suits and got the oakley crowbars with nice twin tips, i associate that with good skiing. i think kids just wanna fit in whether they are good or not. they wanna be like tanner or dumont. idk some of them might be good, some not, but i really give my respect to the guys who wear low profile clothes and are humble about it then go out and slay rails and throw mute 5s. i dont know if u know but Matt Gillis is a good example cuz he dont wear the baggy clothes (over baggy) and hes pretty simple looking but he can nose 5 like u wouldnt believe. I give props to those guys. humility is the way to go.
 
It seems as though the "gangster" style is a lot more popular amongst the under 20 local skiers at mountains. I really don't see a lot of guys in movies dressing very gangster. Look at Long Story Short, I wouldn't say a lot of those guys were very gangster. Hip Hop goes well with the segments so i see why they use it, but I don't think it influences a lot of the riders.

1.) I Love the feeling of huge swag when im riding. Its a whole lot more confortable.

2.) I dont care who you are, but you KNOW when some one is flossin in some 3x shit and throwin down, it looks doper then a dude rockin some of the latest girlpants from kauffmans.

3.) Ive been listenin to hip hop for 8 years, and i know more about rap than most people. So why cant i reflect the culture that i breathe and live? Cause im white? So is the snow, who gives a fuck.

4.) Who says gangster = black? you can be a pigmy from the land down under and be a thug. Plus, Cause i decide to buy bigger shit i am now a thug? I dont shoot shit, i dont rob, i do smoke alot of weed, but other than that, im a normal dude.

 
nigga,,, skiing's BEEN gangster. my friend works in the kitchen in our chalet and he cooks crack in his pyrex on that stove every night. cats slang 20's on the hill all day, and cutting a lift line could get you shot. pretty much we wear baggy clothes to hide our guns, and also cause the big pockets are better for carrying large amounts of dope.

MC HAMMER started the baggy clothes trend. And he damn sure wasn't gansta. So I don't see a correlation between gansta and baggy clothes.

I just think that people should have the style they want, practice the sport they want and listen to the music they want, etc. If it's all the same thing, well it's kinda lame but OK.

The problem with skiing, IMO, is that it's not big enough at the moment(just compare to snowboarding to see). The only "alternative" mainstream style to tight baby-boomer racing style now is what we call the "gangsta" style (I think "gangster" isn't the appropriate word though)

I hope I explained my thoughts well ...

looking "gangster" is way better then those kids who are wearing all black plain outfits that look like gapers with they're huge helmets neck warmers, it looks like they belog with there parents.

Well like, Seth Morison is deff not gangster. Everything about his movie parts and even his skis screams punk. But yet, he doesn't wear tight clothes or nothing. He wears baggy oakley ski wear. I mean, thats what I wear too and I don't like rap, and I'm not a 'gangster'. It's comfy though, and it looks good. And honestly, tanner hall isn't overly obsessed with being 'gangster' ether. Hes not a dumb ass about it as far as I can tell. And if I remember correctly his fav music is regg.

And I agree with the guy that said theres really nothing 'gangster' about being on the hill. I know a guy who is white and he was into that, he always wore a suite though so I just don't know anymore, lol.

word man personally i dont give a fuck i think its dope he was in those tight pants. the reasons masters was my favorite comp last year is cause everyone was dressed like fuckin ballers..saloman wearing wizard of oz characters, rossi wearing sunday's finest. i thought that was the sicest. also eventho alot of people wont agree i thot ninthward was decent too because they were just keepin it real just wearing whatever they want, even if it wasnt dressin up...kinda lame but whatever. Mr. Bishop i agree with you

i dont think its truely "gangster" i mean i wear bigger pants for movement and stuff but thats just cause it feels good...i think whatever suits you go for it
 
Is it automatically gangster if you wear baggy clothes? I mean, I use loose clothes, but thats 'cause of movement and style, but I don't use bandanas, jerseys and doo-rags. does that make me a WG for just wearing bigger clothes?
 
just to make it clear from now on: im not hatin' on anyone for being 'gangster' or listening to rap... im just trying to understand why that particular stereotype fits so well with a sport that seems exactly the opposite.
 
I can understand why people wear big clothes and stuff, but why the fuck do people wear jerseys when they are skiing. someone please tell me why.

I fully agree, even if it had nothing to do with gangsterness I'd probably still wear real baggy stuff. My main problem is boots being so big and everything tight the KABANG! Theres boots 3 times the size of your head.

i wear baggy pants cause they are comfy, and i wear my smily face bandana to keep my face warm. Pretty much it. I think we are really slowly coming out of that gangsta trend......look at pollard, not gangsta at all.
