Lots of people - both girls and guys - know shit fuck about music... They just simply aren't aware and they don't know any music beyond mainstream artists; plus many people are extremely closed-minded. I know lots of girls and lots of guys like this (I hate this quality)

Speaking for myself, I listen to just about every genre of music... I also play guitar and drums, and have been known to pick up just about any instrument within my reach... so I have a pretty solid idea when it comes to things like "distinguishing between guitar and bass"

yewah, most girls are like that.. when i mention most of the people i listen to they're like who? oh they arn't on much music? (no) well i don't like them . which annoys me to no end considering 2 seconds ago they told me they didn't know who they were. i like such a variety tho, most of which arn't played on radio or tv (and the CDs usually have to be specially ordered from the people themselves who usually end up being like across the country..grr)

i like this thread. i think most people in general have no idea about music, but i've noticed girls buy into things more than guys do, and thats why most of them dont know anything about good music. of course there's always exceptions

just don't listen to the radio, go to local shows, and support your local music shops. you'll get the hang of the scene after that. get involved, too. it's definately not that hard to join a street team. you get so much cool free stuff and a great look inside the inustry.

I agree with you.

Even though I'm a girl... it seems there's only 1 or 2 other girls I know that actually know shit about music. It's pretty lame... and that's another reason why I don't like girls.

 
enjoy music for music. if you like, if it makes you happy, then fuck yeah. why worry about how much someone knows about it? or knows about the history of it? if someone is a major music buff, that's awesome and ya really interesting. however, not everyone can be. and for all the music snobs and music snob wanna-bees, let it go. i understand it when people get pissed off when others claim to be really hardcore into a specfic music style that means something to them, but sometimes you've got to drop it. keep enjoying music and wonderful it is for what it is...who cares about the others who "ruin" it, it is what it is to you.

 
in my opinion the mainstream entertainment world has ruined music. once bands start to get popular their music starts to go to shit. some do a pretty good job of keepin their roots, like metallica. but then they sued napster and got sober.

i really wish i was more musical. one moment,im listening to paul simon, another tool, another dj babu. i dont really know much about how the music is put together, but i like it, and it does amazing things for my moods. im sorry for being ignorant, but im definitly not sorry for liking u2. while they are a "popular band", that doesnt change whether or not people like them, or find them inspiring. music is a fingerprint, and if i get your drift, it seems some people are trying ot copy the fingerprint that is hot right now. maybe that didnt make any sense
