When does spirit/lutsen setup features?

Me and my buddy are thinking about going down to spirit and lutsen for a couple days this winter but we want to go when they have a good amount of features setup. When's a safe time to go?

Depends. I'm not sure about Spirit, but my friends and I usually go to opening day at Lutsen. Last year they had a small box and that was it.

From what I can remember about past seasons, with Spirit you can't count on much going on till around Christmas time usually. Not totally sure though, but they usually take a bit longer to get enough stuff up to be worth the drive from Canada.

Last year they had a few of the big jumps up by the end of the holiday season, but the park usually isn't in full swing until mid-January

Lutsen is actually fucking awful, the YouTube videos make it look like they set stuff to but they had nothing
spirit mountain is the 2nd best park I've ever skied other than momentum

just wait till midseason and go to spirit. Lutsen's parks are fuckin sketch, and midseason Spirit park is insaneeeee. So hit that up.

January is probably a good time for spirit I'd say. Maybe a little earlier if you don't care too much about jumps.

Spirit has their big jump line up now apparently. And a number of boxes and rails, probably still wont be in full swing until mid january but can't go wrong with that jump line.

Is Lutsen park really that shitty? Used to always go there as a kid before I did park/before it really existed much really. Family is talking about setting up a trip for old times sake this spring, I'd like to see what their park is all about. That shitty huh? how big of jumps?

Went to luster's park season before last. Jumps were shaped really weird. Was really nice to ride a well spaced out park with zero people in it.

I heard spirit has most of their stuff set up now. idk havent been able to go skiing in a week. I'm gonna try and get there at like 5 though today.

I hear spirit has the main jump line up already, it is beautiful. I'm surprised its up so early. I'm not a fan of lutsen's park. Last time I was there the lips to the jumps were so icy that if you tried a spin, your set would make you slide/butter the other direction. But all the random terrain and tree runs you can find are fun as hell. A run called experts cutoff on eagle mountain is a dream run, alpine slide edge sticks out of the snow for jibbing, then it turns into a steep run that is left ungroomed, then there is a cat track with a drop that you can butter off of.

I always liked (I think the catwalk) on Eagle mountain, right by where the chairlift goes off you can hike up and really launch off that catwalk.. I love it when some people are like stopped and staring down the steep slope off the catwalk thinking about doing it and you just come launch a 360 off it.

I got a pass to a bunch of mountains out west including SLC, but when I get off work the first thing I wanna do is go back to spirit and hit that jump line. Best time of my life. Was nice back in the day no matter how busy your day was, you could make time to get in a few park runs since it's so close if you live in d-town.

Homesick, I'm trying to find videos of people hitting the big jumps at spirit, but all I find is people mostly hitting rails and little jumps. Anyone know of any good ones? Every video I see too the park looks so uncrowded. must be niiiiiiice

Lutsen never seems to have good parks, especially early season. My family goes up every year right after Christmas and they have NEVER had their big park open by then. Last year they had four okay features on top of Eagle, three shitty boxes on Ullr, and two relatively small and poorly shaped jumps near the bottom of Eagle, along with an up-flat double picnic table setup (which was actually a lot of fun).

On facebook they've been saying that they are planning on opening their big park earlier (12/26) - we'll see what happens.

Here is a picture of an obscenely sketchy feature that was there last year:

Update on spirits jumps from friends: 1st is too small of a gap 2nd is too big of a gap to go right after the first and 3rd is just all duchy and needs to be re done. This is just te info I gathered from people who have been able to go there but they all snowboard..

Bump, how are things at spirit right now? Will probably be driving down from Canada after Christmas.

Yet again Lutsen isn't going to have their big park open until after new years... natural terrain it is.

Spirit has both of its jump lines up. It also has a decent amount of rails up, more rails to come, but there's still a pretty good amount of them
