When did nike become a big skateboard shoe?

I recall back in the day nike was hated by like 100% of all skaters and now i see skaters with them all the time what the hell. i still dis like em. can some one tell me why they are so big.

forgot to say , a friend of mine got a pair with in a week the upper toe came started to fall apart and it competely riped off when we were skating i think 2 weeks after he bought them.

i think it's good that nike went into skateboarding. it's a posotive thing for skateboarding the money and advertising and such will help skateboarding as a whole to become more accepted and not shunned upon in the long run. and there is nothing wrong with nike shoes they skate amazing and i bet p-rod and all the other guys are making a killing skating for them.
