i dont like em....i work at food basics and the union there limits my hours to 24 week unless i volunteer to go in on sundays for 8 more. they limit raises too and take shit off my bad and i dont see nothing much in return

unions are good for workers,

bad for employers, and bad for people getting serviced by the union worker i.e. students,

so it depends who i am,

but i want unions, cause someday i be the worker

sometimes measures that are there to help the majority are bad for a couple of people. that thing about limiting the hours thats so that the boss doesnt force people to work hours that they wouldnt be able to handle. this of course limits people like you who want to work more to make more money.

I say participate in your Union and try to get things chnaged. if you leave the Union you could work extra hours but job security might be an issue.

as to my opinion about Unions im kind of split on one hand I beleive that its up to bosses to run their buisness and being bossed around by an over powered union is bad but on the other hand I cant stand those huge companies like EA and Disney who misstreat their employees repeatedly.

 
You dont like it, then quit. Theyre whats keeping your wage as it is. If it was up to the employer, hed have a bunch of mexicans working for minimum wage, and theyd be ENTHRALLED about it.

unions were designed about 100 years ago because of the lack of labor laws, therefore they needed to have someone to support and help the worker, but as labor laws have evolved and now regardless of whether or not you have a union, you will still be safe at work, and all in all will be treated fairly do to labor codes. Now unions are for workers who fucked up their lifes by becoming garbage men and think they deserve money. I wanted to give the ceo of walmart props for , the second that walmart in quebec became unionized he closed it down.

Unions are good for workers, but horrible for the world. well, some of them at least. Specifically, the truckers. They have such unbelievable control, that those trucks give off the most horrible polution, and there is very little to regulate it. It's sickening.

Unions are way to powerful these days. They were good when they started, but now it's just rediculous. For example, Alberta teachers went on strike so they could get paid a higher salary and they said it was to 'improve classroom conditions'. The way I see it, if you don't like whats happening at your job, find a new one.

Unions are a good idea, but people take advantage of them. For example a union construction company hired 5 guys to dig a hole. 1 to opperate the machinary the others to look at it. In my opinion they alsotkae longer to finish jobs and do a worse job, because they have the security of not being able to be fired, and the employer can't hire non-union employers

 
Unionized work places generally pay better. ow much you makin' for an hour? My buddy has worked at Costco for about 4 years through university, he's makin' 22$ an hour.

 
Yea fuck Union work i work for An Automation company and get paid $15 an hour time and a half over 40, and on weekends over 40 hours its double pay. And i work n e where from 40 to 60 hours a week and love it to death as long as ur boss/company are fair like mine u will come out on top w/o a union. Plus no union dues

I'm a city worker for Toronto and was working with some supervisors that did not take a likeing to me, recently there was a disagreement between them and I and I was terminated as an employee. I got the union on their ass and got my job back within two weeks, now the supervisors are in more trouble than I ever was...... Unions are a lot more convenient than inconvenient.

im biased because my dad is a shop owner, but unions were a good thing in their time, but now all they are is a drain on the countries economy, my brother in law works at ford, hes an unskilled worker (he just does like assembly line shit like screw on nuts and bolts) he got hired in at like $20 an hour and now hes making close to 30, then he they closed his plant and they had some spots open in a plant in virginia beach so he got a spot, they sold his house for him, they gave him $3000 to move all his shit, and they gave him a $30000 bonus and dont get me wrong im glad it worked out for him, but thats fucking bullshit, thats why american cars are losing quality and costing so much, how are we supposed to compete against asians that take a quarter an hour and actually work their asses off. also union workers dont have to do shit, a lot of them (im not trying to stereo type union workers im just saying ive heard stories) sit the fuck around all day and you cant fire em because theyll sue your ass like that. plus the final reason i dislike unions, my dads dad was a 'scab' and a union worker killed him when my dad was two

 
some unions are great to there workers for pay and hours. GM in ontario min wage is like 27 bucks an hour....whatever union im in its all min wage...lame and it wont let me work more

i belong to one because i work for a grocery store. they have good benefits, but i hate them taking 9 bucks out of my paycheck every week.

unions might be better in the states where u dont have free healthcare, etc....but here we have all that so its no biggy....if i make 114 bucks, i lose 7 to the union. now my hours are going to be cut back to make it more fair for the rest of the union-eeys who are still in school....stupid shit

Unions are the product of poor humanitarism. Unions aren't nessicary if workers are respected and given what they need/want to an extent where they have all they need and the community benefits from the job they perform. If this was ever possible, unions wouldn't be nessesary and the community would profit from local jobs rather than a company moving its production to another country for cheap labor.

labor laws alone are fucking crazy, my dads shop isnt unionized and its still fucked up, this bitch got hired on to work in the office and she had crazy surgery like right away and we had to pay for it because our healthcare plan is weird, and then she was never there for like a few months and we were paying her, and you cant fire em even if theyre fucking you like that, then eventually we got rid of her and found out she imbezzeled like 10 gs that parts beside the point but it still fucking sucked

 
^Same thing happened to my Dad, and no his factory isn't unionized. My Dad hires some lady, she worked for 2 weeks, and then complained about how her wrist hurt. She goes to the doctor who diagnoses her with carpel tunnel (Sp whatever) and my Dad's company has to pay for everything and give her workers comp on top of that. BULLSHIT
