Whats your opinion?

I am giving a speech about whether or not life specialists should be provided for adults. They are available for children (Child life specialist) and their job is to help cope with hospitalization and be an

advocate for the patient. I feel that it would be helpful if their were

specific life specialists for adults.

Info on child life specialists: http://www.childlife.org/The%20Child%20Life%20Profession/HowaChildLifeSpecialistCanHelpYou.cfm

So I would like all of your input on whether or not you think this would be helpful for you if you were dealing with a life threatening illness.

Thank you.

If i were dealing with a terminal illness id trust my family making decisions for me. So unless if someone had no family or close friends frequently visiting them in the hospital, i wouldnt think it would be too useful having life specialists for adults. Isnt this similar to what a social worker would do anyway? You could always just train current social workers to do that stuff instead of going through the process of starting up new educational programs and institutions for a whole new profession

That is a good point that i hadn't thought of and will make a point of it in my speech.

but in my experience I found that its easier to tell someone outside your family and friends somethings, and they can help advocate for you in a way similarly to a social worker, but at least in my experience i had much more interaction with my child life specialist than my social worker. The social worker helped mostly with financial aid in my case. I had very little interaction with her while my life specialist now looking back on it was almost like a therapist to me.
