Whats Wrong With my Car!?!?

Its standard. And when I go to pull away theres absolutely no power to the car at all. It barely even moves, especially off the line. I'd get owned by a sunfire at this point. I thought it was the clutch going but it goes into all the gears totally fine. Also when I get out of the car it smells like burning.

Dammit I think its the clutch. But any help would be nice cause I can't see my mechanic till Monday.
 
when i read the title i thought it said carl, and couldnt really get through it without being confused....so ya probably ask a mechanic
 
yeah deff check the clutch, do you ever ride the brakes and the gas at the same time by accident because that'll fuck a clutch up and make it slip get it checked out
 
defiantly the clutch if its whining when you press the gas and not going anywhere, what kind of car do you have?
 
definatley sounds like your clutch is slipping. nothing you can do but buy a new one if that is the problem. but if its not the clutch its a fuel problem, probably injectors or pump. whens the last time u changed your plugs?
 
Could be a couple of problems. It could be that the fluid in your transmisson is finished, and you need change it. You could need a new clutch. Could be the engine...if there is lack of power. Some questions need to be answered. How does the engine idle? How does the clutch peddle feel? Does the shifter enter all the gates of the gears with little effort? Does your car still take off, and does it run up through all the gears?

What you tell us is too basic to make a judgement call. You need to give us some more information.
 
I can't believe you posted this in NSG when you're a member of the car cult. That is, unless you just want to read some funny answers.
 
most likely the clutch, but it could be tranny fluid, or maybe you never release the parking brake? but you'd have to be a dumbass for that one....
 
Its a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT.

In response to the statements above:

1) I dont hit the brakes and gas at the same time

2) The parking brake wasn't on lol.

3) and yes the RPM's go wayy up and the car screams but I go no where.
 
my car is a 5 speed and when i get out of it something smells like its burning but i have power so i don't know
 
If your clutch was slipping, you'd definitely know. The rpms shoot way up when you switch gears and hit the gas.. it's like you're driving on ice.

just kidding, the burning smell and the no power off the line does sound like clutch trouble. however if the clutch were going out you would likely be experiencing problems when changing gears such as the engine just revving when the clutch is engaged and you are in gear. how is the acceleration once the car is going? if you push on the gas while doing a decent speed does it accelerate as normal or does it just take forever to build more speed? I dont know if yours is the AWD TT version but i do remember hearing that the stealths counterpart the 3000gt VR-4's had a whole list of common problems. also the fact that it is an older sports car puts it up as a good candidate for being abused by a previous owner which could definitly mean the clutch was very worn out to begin with and was never replaced when needed( i dont know how many owners the car had before you or how long youve had the car though). let us know what the shop says.
 
ya man thats exactly what it is. Except if I were on ice the spedometer would shoot way up cause the tires were spinning. But ya I know what you mean and thats exactly the problem. if the clutch is slipping what parts am I looking at? A brand new clutch kit or is it a simple adjustment?
 
definitly new clutch. not 100% sure what else youll need but possibly new throw out bearing, resurface the flywheel, and new cluctch cable are common with installing a new clutch.
 
If you cant figure out what the problem is yourself i hardly thing asking nsg is gonna solve the problem. if you cant find the problem then you're gonna have to take it to a mechanic in the end anyway so why delay going..
 
A good and honest mechanic is hard to find man. Any car owner knows that. I have an amazing guy that won't over-charge me a dime, and hes not open till monday.

As for asking NSG about the problem, I just want to go in with an educated opinion on eveything. I don't want to walk in saying "uhhh, my car doesnt go fast anymore". PLUS, I am trying to figure out what everything is going to cost me.

yea fair enough we have heeps of good mechanics here gotta sweet deal on some chains from one actually but that doesn't matter but yea it sounds like your clutch but its kinds weird for it to go all of a sudden, usually you'd start noticing the distance the pedal travels before engaging changing, if you drop the clutch from standing that might not help. if its gonna cost ya heeps and you drive hard you should look at getting a perfornamce clutch and if ya got money to burn get a short shift gearbox too!
 
do a clutch check. start your car give it some gas and drop the clutch. if it doesnt chug and die right away your clutch is probably shot.
 
It's obviously the clutch slipping. if it smells like a burning baby, it's a clutch. if the revs raise, but the speed isn't increasing, it's the clutch.

Depending on how you drive your car, you may wish to opt for a heavier than stock clutch. Are you running increased boost? Do you take it to the 1/4 mile where you're doing hard AWD launches (which unless you are very good at will have some high RPM clutch slippage) If so, just get a stronger clutch.

Also, a heavier clutch won't necessarily be a heavier clutch pedal. yes it will have a smaller sweet spot, but you lean it quickly. My Talon TSi AWD has an ACT 2100 and it's pedal feel is a ton lighter than my Toyota MR2 Turbo's clutch pedal.

Also, as a bonus, the heavier clutch will outlast the stock replacement by far. I've got 80k on my Talon TSi AWD's ACT 2100, with a lot of hard launches, and it still holds up to anything.
 
Your fucking retarded man. I can beat most everyday cars out on the road. If you even read the thread you would realize that MY CAR IS BROKEN YOU FUCKING IDIOT and I can't get up to speed like I used to.
