Whats with the fat ski trend?

ok so im probably going down in flames on this site for even asking this question...

but i dont really understand this whole super fat ski business.

ive skied 2feet of powder on 78mm skis and had a great time. long as its steep enough of course.

i dont really want a ski over 90mm but if i want to buy a new ski... all these twintips are coming out 105,110... where will we end up? ;/

fat skis allow you to float and glide across teh pow its more fun i guess ive never skied pow we dont get much in WI

prophet 130's are pushing it?

i ride my skogens which are 86 waist...getting a wider ski next year...like i heard before...once you go fat you never go back

i see tonnes of people on fat skis and almost none of them do rails (at least where ive skied)

ive done rails on my non-freestyle skis and got strange looks from snowboarders. i guess it would be a bit harder cause they are skinner

I have Mojo 90's(89mm waist) as my everyday ski and it's so much better than having narrow skis. It's easier to land everything, they're more stable when you're going fast, and fat skis are just sweet in general. If I can get the money for a pair of powder skis, they'll have at least a 105mm waist.

^seriously. Demo some fat skis. You will never go back. It makes you more confident because they are so much more stable, float better, and can hold their own going faster. You have so much more control. Just do it. Seriously.

i have. and i still dont get the big deal..

i demoed pe's and 1080 guns, and some t@nkers which i hated.

my arvs (92 waist and soft) rock as an every day ski, but i'm still using my mad trix in the park. my arvs will become my park ski when my mad trix die and i'll get something stiffer for the other stuff probably.

It's not only just for skiing pow, Wide stiff skis plow through the crud, and when it's deep you can't charge superfast on skinny skis. My skis are 102mm at the waist and really stiff and they hold a monster edge on hardpack, bulldoze crud and glide through pow like no other, I just feel they are more versatile. The only time they ever suck is ice bumps and who wants to ski that shit all day

fat skis are just so much funner. Im not a huge fan of fatties in the park but anywhere else they are just sick(i dont ski bumps)

i beg to differ. long as its steep enough a skinny ski still flies.

but anyway its useless debating this as im gonna have to buy a fat ski cos thats pretty much all there is heh

Yeah I don't really see any twins under 80 anymore, I ride chron wides for all over and madtrix in the park(76mm waist) and both fucking rip, I just use the madtrix cause they are super durable.

The Karma's i'm on are 87mm underfoot...not really wide in comparison to what's out there, but significantly different than the 78mm 1080s I was on. They are way better when in the pow and really float. Really nice and stable feeling, even when you land a jump.

I won't be going skinny unless its a hot bitch or unless I'm cross country skiing (and the latter is definitely not happening).

The only fat ski I have tried are the pocket rockets. I liked them for higher speeds because they didnt seem to rattle around as much as my k2 PE's.

PE's are 85mm, not really that fat, Guns are 92 I think? Decent size for every day stuff, but Guns are soft. Depends on the conditions, 90mm is good for an every day ski (that is what I use) you can still ski bumps with them (who skis bumps on purpose though) but they are wide enough to float and stable on landings.

Tankers are great skis but you have to be strong to ride them as they are pretty stiff (same with Armada ANT, 4Frnt EHP, Dynastar Legend Pro Rider, Volkl Explosiv etc.)

wut about Lines Anthems...they considered a good fat park ski. they are like a 93mm waist i think. and they are soft.
