everyone has their own opinions and taste in music. you dont like my music, i dont like your music. and thats that. instead of bitch about it just accept it and appreciate the fact that in the modern free world you are able to listen to whatever music you so chose. /thread
 
See I don't believe in this.

I think we all have the same taste in music and things, just experiences in our life make us feel differently about things.

And I have no reason to hate dubstep.

I just don't see why anyone would ever want to listen to it if they knew of "better" music.

I don't mind dubstep, I just don't listen to it because there are better things to listen to. It's pretty stupid really. Plus the fan base for it's fucking retarded. (but whatever).

So I don't see why you would all go fucking crazy for a guy like skrillex when you could listen to better musicians.

Skrillex has really cool effects (modulations) shit like that, and I think we've already been through this conversation, but besides that his music is terrible. All the high pitched voices sound awful, and it's just not music in my opinion. It's more like sounds that hype up people who don't know any better.

Anyways.

I'm pretty tired. I'll probably get hated on by most of the forum for this thread, but I just dont see why we need so many dubstep threads when there are much more deserving artists. Really.

Just shut the fuck up. everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Whet,her its favorite foods or music or things to do. So you're ignorant if you don't like a certain type of music, don't listen to it, and you may not understand why people like it but respect their interests and opinions. DOn't be a troll dude. your full of urself if you think that you know the best' music. A lot of people like dubstep, and a lot of it has really good melodies and heavy ass basslines that people like to rage too. Can you make dubstep that sounds this good and draws huge ass crowds of fans...no. and that means that it takes talent to do so and therefore it cant be complete garbage. why dont you stop being a prick and just listen to your own music..
 
theres no such thing as bad music, if its produced, someone somewhere is going to like it, and those who dont like it decide to call it bad music meaning they dont like it. ie i dont like screamo stuff but lots of people do

Skrillex isn't the only dubstep producer,(although there are a lot of retards out here who think he is) There are a lot better dubstep producers out there. I agree FUCK SKRILLEX he sucks.
 
wait...instead of reading little snippets of sentences i wrote why dont you read it all! novel idea huh. I was talking about people who make dubstep and original songs...remixes are not just played straight up and if you dont actually remix the song then most people dont like it. I agree with the whole dj aspect but thats completely different im not saying normal club djs or whatever are even musicians cause there not. On the other hand if someone like mimosa plays a minnesota song at his show yea he didnt make it yea okay... but its not like he doesnt play his own stuff too.
and my main point was that if people make ORIGINAL stuff or ORIGINAL REMIXES that are actually different then the original enough to make it sound original...and can draw crowds that means that there music is appreciated, right? and if you cant make that music yourself then dont hate on people who do OP and this isnt the only thiing about FUCK_SKRILLEX. I could care less about what you enjoy in music but this kids a huge prick based on other threads...the kid claims he wrote for blogs like wizkhalifa and macmiller and is making claims about what good music people should listen to? stfu

Skrillex is a perfectly competent guitarist and vocalist, and I guarantee you that those skills are what gave him the ability to be so instantly successful in the EDM scene. I mean, the man is a genius at arrangements, synthesis, guitar, and vocals.

Have you ever touched a DAW or tried to produce an electronic track? I guarantee you its not as simple as you think it is. On top of that, you have no idea of the understanding of music required to produce something so well. I mean, he took this shit straight out of his head and turned it into music. I don't know how you can't respect that.

You know how many professional composers play each and every part of their songs? 0. Does anything separate them from skrillex? Not really. The ability to arrange and write movie scores doesn't separate you from someone who writes and arranges dubstep, electro house, or post hardcore.

Roger Waters for example... Played bass, mediocre at singing, wrote some songs and had other people play most of the parts. Are you going to assume he's a bad musician? No.

The thing that separates people with true talent and drive is the music that they create, not their ability to play guitar, solo stupidly fast, or talk their mouth off about music theory. You know who I think is a bad musician? Joe Satriani. His songs are complex, difficult, incredibly boring and emotionless. When you're just up there because you happen to be able to play faster than anyone else... Its time to leave the stage.

I've played piano for 12 years... I have trouble writing music that I like, its rare for me to finish a track. My ability to play almost any scale, arpeggio, or chord does not make me a good musician. I'll be satisfied if or when I have an album released on itunes, but until then I will keep making music and learning more about it.

As much as i hate dubstep, i can agree that it takes talent and knowledge of music to make

what pisses me off a lot is how all of a sudden people who have no knowledge of music and have never played an instrument think that they're dj's, unless that only happens in my town.

Can we please talk about how fucking bad Mac Miller/Wiz Khalifa/Every other terrible rapper now a days. They all rap about the same shit: Smoking weed, fucking bitches, and drinking champagne. They all use some shitty beat too.
 
My cd player is broken in my car. That sucks. I've got 2 rap stations, 3 rock stations, and 2 country stations programmed. I hardly listen to country, I love rap but the shit that they play these days is stupid dumb. Fuck off Drake, Chris Brown, LMFAO, and especially Akon (for starting this bullshit),
 
i didnt read anything except the OP but my feelings on music right now are that dubstep and mashups are a bit too common for my liking, but i do like that pop music is really dancy right now so at least there are consistently songs with a beat on the radio
 
I just find it tough to believe if you like dub/electro, to not appreciate skrillex. It's starting to seem, now that he is getting more and more popular, it is cool to bash him. He's not excision or deadmau5. He's a happy medium. My 2 cents.
 
I listen to Gucci Mane and Rick Ross, A LOT. but i recognize it as "bad" music. it doesn't make it any less enjoyable. I think of it in terms of liquor. If Gucci and Ross are moonshine then i know i can appreciate that Regina Spektor so much more, because it's basically absinthe.
 
I fucking love Gucci and Rick Ross but they are real ass niggas.

They aren't some little white kid raping in a whiny ass voice about how many hoes he gets in one night while smoking 10 blunts. Or Wiz Khalifa who just talks in half his songs and does his stupid fucking laugh in the other half.

I'm going to add to this post a bit since it has so much truth. My main point of view is there is no point in making music, no matter how technical it is, if it is not worth listening to.

Try to listen to this song:

Its probably one of the most technical songs to play because it is written four third four timing. One of the only songs that uses a fraction in the time signature, its super technical and for the majority of people sounds like total absolute dick. The few bands out there that can create songs in odd time signatures, mixing technical musical aspects with good sounding music deserve a lot of praise. It is quite hard to do to say the least. I have written one song alternating between 9/8, 7/8 and 5/4 timing and it is incredibly hard to do, and it still sounds terrible. Few bands can do this tool, dream theatre, rush and Rushloo are a few in my opinion.

Now I would include most dubstep artists in this list because if they know what they are doing working with wobblebase can get pretty technical. You need to get the right modulation speed, lots of the time they use fractal values for this. Pretty much instead of them being the length of a quarter note (quarter of one beat) they can be a fifth note or a seventh note length. Something you can't find in any other genre of music without it sounding like that song I posted above.

Sparknotes: Dubstep can be very technical and lots of people like the sound, this pretty much means it can be considered good music.

 
I spent years listening to dubstep when I was like 13 and shit.

All of flux pavillions songs sound the same and are simple. Skrillex is talented, but he drowns it out with high pitched vocals and just all out stupid things. Too many people are hyping about him, and it's just un necessary.
 
I won't even involve myself in this, because there seems to be no in between with Skrillex's music with you guys. But I will say this everyone either FUCKING hates it, or is in love with the man. Can't we all agree that some of his music does indeed not sound all that good, but others can be saaweet, especially when it's got all the hipster wannabe girls wearing those glasses and moaning like a dog in heat when "Cinema" drops at his shows. You just have to respect what he's done so far. Like his music or not, he's literally proved the power of the internet, and the coming of a new wave of mass media and file sharing.
