So im going to school in vermont this year...and its cold as witches tit up here. I need some warm outerwear. Does anyone make puffy pants? I know orage did a while back, but I can't buy them anywhere. Also if anyone has any recommendations for nice down coat that would be sweet.

Helly Hansen makes some warm stuff... the key with any outerwear is to layer, i ski the iceoast and know how cold it gets
i think puffy pants would be kind of irritating, if you were some base layer followed by some sweat pants you should have no problem stayin warm

thanks for the input... I think puffy pants are the way to go for ultimate warmth...Nobody makes them?

I skied my 66north puffy jacket from rain to -30 last year. Warmest. Jacket. Ever. too bad i grew out of it

It's not so much the brand but rather the quality of insulation. If you are in a wet climate you need to keep dry, but if its stupid cold worry more about the insulation. Always though, if your skin is wet from perspiration or the baselayer on your skin is wet, you will be 25% colder, hence why polyester based baselayers like UA blow.

IMO Warmest in Order:

- Down (High Loft 90/10 or up on down fill 550+ fill power)

- Primaloft

- Thinsulate Supreme

- Thinsulate

- Standard Proprietary Insulation By Brands (Think Polyester, Poly Ball Fills)

I swear by all the 686 SMARTY stuff. Amazing outerwear, super warm, fit good, and I find they zip up pretty high on your face, so it's easy to duck for cover on a lift when it's a cold windy day.

Baselayer's also help a ton, get something like Under Armour Cold Gear, or Helly Hansen Lifa-Warm, and you'll be laughing

I'm assuming you're gonna be in burlington, northern VT? I graduated UVM last year, and yeah, it gets cold as fuck, i'd even get some insulated regular pants for those nights when you're out partying and then walking up the hill in -30 wind chill. As far as snow pants Oakley makes some puffy pants, but with the way the weather goes in VT, you're prolly better off with some nice 20k waterproofing pants, a good base layer and some sweat pants or flannel pajama pants in between on real cold days, cus like someone was saying up there you wanna make sure you stay dry. The snow is pretty wet, and especially in burlington, you're gonna get some sleet and freezing rain from time to time.

but VT is sick, i'm out west now but i'll prolly move back to VT some day when I'm an old fart.

For actually skiing, nothing beats a one peice. You can fit so many layers underneath it, and you don't lose heat from under your jacket or above your pants. They're really convientient too, I wear a thermal base layer (top and bottom) and fleece pants and a fleece pullover in the car, then get to the mt. and pull the one piece on over the top of everything. I ski northern VT too so i know the kinda weather you'll be into. A one piece is the way to go.

That's what's up. The only bad thing is they only make dark colours. But yeah go with Columbia Titanium it's crazy warm.
