What's the perfect camera for me?

Hello all!

I want to start taking photos as a hobby. I am not very experienced with a camera, and have limited knowledge of the different types out. I am willing to learn to use a more complex camera setup through use, though.

I want a camera that can take high quality photos and things like panorama, self-timer, long exposures, night-time. I am aiming to mostly shoot still life. something I can walk around with exploring a city or easily take on a hike or backpacking trip. maybe even up to the ski hill.

I want to keep the price under $500 if possible, but i'm open to options maybe just above that ceiling.

I have looked at the sony NEX series, but I really don't know what else is out there or if there's something that would meet my need better.

any suggestion helps! just need something to get me started and get out there!thanks

don't get a dslr if you want something small to carry with you everywhere. you were better off looking at a sony nex, olympus, fuji, or something similar. i love my fuji x100, but it's definitely not for everyone (has a fixed prime lens).

oh and if you get a t2i, go on the canon website and buy a refurbished one. Saves you a ton of money and it's still a brand new camera.

Side note: they might not have t2i's refurbished but check out t3i's as well.

thank you cobblepot.

i think i might go for a dslr so that if i end up really liking photography and the interface of it, i can just continue using it and not worry too much about wanting upgrades or anything like that.

remember that glass is as important as the camera body.

Also I would suggest the T2/3i ( google the differences) on a lower budget and a 70d for a slightly higher priced more professional camera. ( Im a canon fanboy BTW)

hope this helps
