Last season I saw the odd skiier riding with no poles... This season I go out to Avila and seriously half the skiiers there dont have any poles.... Whats the deal.... Why no poles??

And I dont mean to be mean to anyone out there who currently rides with no poles because some of you are really sick riders.... A lot are better then me... But no matter how sick the trick your doing is, you just look retarded without poles. It looks like something is missing... Its just stupid.

Could someone please share some insight on what this new craze is about, or is this only at Avila?
 
Alrighty. Some kids like no poles, some don't. I go either way sometimes. It just depends on whether or not you think they get in your way. Its a toss up, no big deal. Now I wouldn't usually do this but search bar this stuff man. You have just created one of sooo many threads on no poles, plenty of info on it in the searchbar!
 
its happening all over, and i have no idea why. but im not hatin, i really dont care what other people do, but i to would like to know why?
 
Im not hatin on anyone cause thats not what i do, i just dont like the way it looks, and i think it takes away from the sickness of a trick because it just looks unnatural, or like your just learning how to ski and havnt figured out how to use poles yet.

However, i do agree that sometimes poles get in the way on a big spin when you try to grab, so i can see how they would make it easier. But why do you do a nice trick?? two reasons im sure 1) the feeling you get when you stomp a sick trick, and 2) because it looks sick and u want people to see. So why make it easier if its going to take away from how sick the trick could look?
 
fun is understandable, more balance i dont understand, and you need poles so u dont look stupid.

I feel as if im hatin on all u no pole riders and i dont mean to... but ive been skiing for 21 years so maybe im just not welcoming to a change like this.
 
personal preference.

why do you give a shit about other people, let them do what makes them happy. Everyones different so let it slide.
 
I suppose your right and i should just let it slide and not say anything. I just feel it is taking away from our sport.
 
I dont mean to snap at you, but get over it. Change is everywhere. Worry about yourself, not what others do. All these threads on no-poles and tight pants are rediculous. For gods sake, people need to change thier tampons and take an advil. Who the fuck cares what I do, or what someone else does. If your not diggin' thier style, then leave it alone. There is no need to comment on how gay someone looks.

Last time I checked most people ski to have fun. It's not a fashion show, at least it shouldn't be
 
I do it sometimes because it is actually pretty fun and it lets you do more things, and I think it helps me develop some skill because I only have my skis to concentrate on (if that makes any sense). People shouldn't worry about what othes are doing and only really worry on making themselves better.
 
i do both because on a hiking day i will where poles because its easier hiking and on just normal days i where poles
 
The part about telling people they look gay was a joke. Im not trying to insullt anyone. Just voice my opinion. I dont spend much time on NS so i didnt see this trend coming. Its not huge around Ottawa so i caught me by surpirze when i went to Avila
 
Amen. So, Ill try to sum it up. Heres the deal with no-poles. No-poles is when a skier decides not to use poles. I dont mean to be rude, but wrap your fucking head around that thought and drop the topic. Whether you make these threads or not, nothing will change. Voicing your opinion on the topic will do shit all as well. Ski to have fun, and if that means dropping your poles, so be it. Im sick of all this debate on this site.

Fuck Ski Gabber, I should have never ventured out of Ski Equipment.

You are a funny guy. When I first saw people who were good not using poles was in a movie. I didn't think that much about it cause it doesn't really apply to me. I need my poles for skating out of most of the runs I do. I never thought anyone would feel so strongly about it, but apparently they do because there are like a million threads about it. Its wierd!

my friends go no poles sometimes. i usually go no poles only wen im filming. sometimes i go no poles because seomtimes poles are toomuch of a hassle and my thumbs are hurting from them. but i still prefer poles, because i feel more balanced on rails and i feel like i will nut myself on a rail wen i dont have my poles
 
I don't really care what people do because when everyone is wearing tight little pants and going no poles cause its the new hotness on NS, I'll still be rocking the poles, but the point behind this thread is that it bastardizes the idea of skiing. If you want to be a faggot and go no poles, pick up a snowboard. You want to grab, you wrap your pole cord around your wrist, squeeze with your thumb grab with your other fingers and get over it. I've tried no pole and grabs aren't any easier than they are with poles. If you want to look like a bunch of chodes in ski school rocking your no poles, thats your prerogative, but theres no significant advantage and it kills the idea of skiing in general. May be just my opinion, but there it is.

Everything I typed after that got turned into a link so I had to double post, but:

Notice that there was thread about no poles created FOUR DAYS AGO. Nine days ago there was a thread with the exact same title, "What's the deal with no poles".

This is seriously just getting really, really retarded. I'm not going to delete this thread, because it needs to be said that THIS HAS TO STOP.

In the future, if you make a thread about no poles, you're going to get banned for a day or two. It's just getting really annoying.
 
i saw like 6 out or 10 freeskiers at ALTA without poles

it doesnt help to ski alta with no poles and the werent doing to switch pow or hand drag shit

so this trend is kinda lame, im  not dropping my poles even though i do at this one mountain in ogden just cuz it makes shit easier

so i guess im a hypocrite

everyone posting shit like when will this ever stop is just continuing the thread. if you want it to stop dont post anything on these threads. give em a few hours and theyll be pushed down the thread listing. this thread is not about no poles, its about no poles threads. thats how far its gotten. if you see threads like this why bother to post on em if you hate em so much.
 
people get feisty on this topic, it's pretty hilarious

our activity is called "skiing", not "skiing with poles" or "skiing without poles", it shouldn't matter.

poles ARE useful (i am saying this as a person who has skied over 20 days so far this season without them) but the only time i miss them is the odd traverse. the cons outweigh the pros for me, because they get in the way of grabbing, hand-related tomfoolery, and slapping/snowball throwing.

so my point is, lighten up.
 
maybe those that dont use poles wonder why does he ski with poles? about you. maybe they think poles are ugly. all a matter of opinion
