so me and some friends are planning a trip to whistler this year and are trying to figure out whats the best way to go. i personally think that if we fly into seattle and find some way to get to vancouver/whistler from there, it would be the cheapest. please let me know what you think...

uhh well to get from seattle to vancouver cheapest is to either drive if someone can obviously or take a bus.

alright, allow me to re-phrase...

what is the cheapest, most economical and logical way to get to whistler?

fly into Vancouver and take the bus to Whistler. Or if you are old enough rent a car. The money you may save flying into Seattle, probably is not worth the extra 2hr drive to BC.

just everyone chip in for gas, i drove myself to whistler this summer, took maybe 2 1/2 tanks of gasolina. if your buddies are going, shouldnt be too bad

I'm in the same boat man. Flights to Vancouver from my city are DOUBLE the price, as a flight to Seattle.

$250 roundtrip, compared to $500+ roundtrip. Real lame because it's essentially the same travel distance overall. And factor in now needing a $100 passport and it's just straight up shitty.

let me know what you find out...

where are you flying from? i'm coming from minneapolis...

Buffalo, NY.

I'm going to look into bus fare, and see what type of rate roundtrip it would be.

i checked on train tix and trip would be about 50 bucks - that sucks though cuz the train doesn't go as often as a bus and if my flight is late, i'm screwed...

Woah woah woah.

That airlines pricing makes it worthwhile to drive to Columbus, OH. 300 miles is $40 in gas for me. $90 or so roundtrip from driving.

Hmmmmm...

the dates I'm looking at would be $125 total for the flight.

if you have a group of people, a car would be more economical if you split the cost because there are always copons and discounts you can find online. if it's just like 2 of you, the bus would be more cost effective, though definitely the less favorable way to travel.

You can take the train up to BC from Seattle, its pretty easy. From Vancouver, there are shuttle services and all to Whistler.

I refuse to disregard your post.

Holy awesome airfare pricing batman!

$125 roundtrip from Columbus to Vancouver. Even if I factor in the driving costs, it is still $200-$300 cheaper than the cheapest flight I have found out of Buffalo.

i rented a car in seattle then drove to whister. it didnt cost too much and its like a 4 hour drive

WELL... you can get a shitty moped for about $200, then only have to spend like $50 total on gas to get there

or you could just take the bus or drive

I forget what the service is called, but from downtown Seattle to the Vancouver airport, it is only like 35 or 30 US. I'm pretty positive they do airport to airport too. I did it coming back form High North a few years back. You can get a cheap Seattle ticket and even stay there and hit up some sick local skiing, then take that shuttle to Van airport and do the Perimiter ($50 or so) to Whistler or find a cheaper transport. Good luck.

wow thats not bad at all for that flight, but still, a roadtrip across the country can be quite fun with the right bunch of people

we flew into seattle from philly and then rented a pathfinder and drove up to seattle. there were also 6 of us, so a big SUV made the most sense. ended up being like $60 a person for the rental and gas. if its just like you and one other person you can rent some tiny car with folding back seats for mad cheap and only have to get like two tanks of gas, so that would be pretty cost-effective. plus the drive from seattle to whistler is cool, you pass shannon falls and go through squamish.

Hitchhike in the back of a freezer trailer truck. …That way you can get accustom to the cold weather long before you get there...or you could pick up a second job and pay for a plane ticket…Quick, warm, and in the end it would be way worth it!

Just so you know, you don't need a passport to cross the border via ground transportation. Yet. It's obviously a good idea, but not necessary unless you are flying.

yeah, they are a good idea. we just took a soccer trip across the border and it was an organizational nightmare...

If you live in the SLC area, direct flights from SLC to Bellingham are fairly inexpensive and will get you an hour closer to Whistler than Seattle.
