maybe there have been people as great BUT no one was in the public eye as the pope was. To do the things the pope did and be the great man he was while being in the public eye therefore under much more scrutiny than someone who is not and to hold up to what he believes and not crumble like so many others would is good enough to be shown the respect and revernece he has. I would like to see any of you be in the same wordly position as him and stand up for your beliefs. IT ISNT AS EASY AS YOU MAY THINK look at all the other world leaders and they all have scandal and are constanly bending and breaking.

What has the pope done?

-Well, he brought down communism in Poland and all over Eastern Europe freeing millions of people.

- He apologized on behalf of the church to the jewish, for the way they have been mistreated by catholics.

- He was shot 3 times, and after recovering, he went to prison and forgave his would-be murderer.

- He stood up for morality and faith in an age of rampant secularism.

- He developed an incredible connection with the world's youth on his World Youth Days.

- He showed the world that a life filled with weakness and suffering still has significant meaning.

- He gave dignity to the lives of the sick, poor, abused, and disabled.

- He spoke 13 languages in order to communicate with the entire world.

- He visited over 100 countries spreading the Gospel.

But you know, I'm sure you do that all on your lunch break.

 
Of course no one has done as much as he has, no one gives them a chance. There are lots of people who can speak 20 languages. Sure they have not been shot, influenced millions of people, stoped comunism and things of thats sort, because they dont have the power of the church to get all the attention. Just think if you had a billion people listen to what you say and believe what you believe, you could get just about any thing done.

And who even said we are going to hell, shut the fuck up. there is no hell, and if there was I'm sure just about every single person in the world will be there with us.

As of lately he has done nothing, yes you are right, but he was the head of the whole catholic religion, which is about 1.3 billion strong. Which in my mind that is alot of power, more then any president, plus he open the communication with other religions. He was the first pope recognize other people's beliefs and no dissmay them as bullshit. But before he died he did nothing at all.

not so, this meant that he could communicate to all his followers, and be more one with the people who seek him for guidance. look, how can you not think he was a good man, and even a great man? it defies logic.

and d-loc, he didn't keep chiavo alive because logic came out on top: brain dead woman on life support for 15 years, no way for her to recover, husband and friends assured of her wishes, family in denial, no wonder they decided to end her "life" as a vegetable, 15 years too late.

I have respect for the the Pope and some of the things he's done, but I feel that there is others who have done as much on a local level but don't get recognition. I also don't think the Catholic structure is good, with Bishops, Archbishops, Pope. I think this makes Catholicism too political and gives a few select people too much power. It also takes away from what the religion is really about. God.

no dispute there. i personaly do not agree with most catholic teachings, as they aren't biblical, so much so that catholicism might have become another gospel, condemned in the bible.

but so we agree then that the Pope was a good man. end of discussion on that.

What do you mean there not biblical, over time things have to be taught diferently to the new generations. It mite change somewhat but they still try to convey the same message to the people!!!

 
im talking about praying to saints and mary, a very predominant thing but that is a form of idolatry, and un biblical (though shall have no other God than me). not being Godly, they cannot do anything for you, and to pray to them for help instead of to God is idolatry.

also the fact that their bread and wine is truely believed to be the body of christ and his blood, for real, not symbolicaly, making a sacrifice of Jesus each time they do the Holy Supper, instead of His one and only sacrifice.

and the confession to another person, instead of directly to God.

and the paying to the Church for forgiveness thing, beit money or good works.

and the predominant justification by works, not faith.

those are un biblical.

the praying to saints is the main argument for another gospel, condemened by the Bible.

Confessions to another person, Fathers, priests, bishops whatever, they are messengers of god, you tell them your sins and the tell it to god....
