I have a few years of HS left but I'm looking at colleges and the University of Nevada Reno seems cool. so I was wondering whats reno like? Hows the skiing nearby? whats the best resort in Tahoe? how pricey is it? are there good jobs? what other activities? Culture? the university? the state of Nevada in general?

Thanks to any who answer.

Reno's chill. Been there many times but never have lived there. Your close by the north shore so good skiing is just a short drive away. Have you looked into sierra nevada college in incline?

I've looked at it but they don't offer that many courses and I would rather go to a large college

Reno is cool. I have lived here for 4 years now and I am completing my Master's at UNR. It is not your typical mountain town but it is a short drive (45 min) to Tahoe where you can get that experience. The best part about Reno is that you can really get any where in the city in a car in about 15-20 minutes tops! There are a lot restaurants, events, hiking trails, etc. UNR is also a quality educational institution with a lot of options.

As for skiing, Squaw is the best around by far. If you are into park skiing, go to Boreal or Northstar. Heavenly is a little far. But Mt. Rose is pretty nice for a local mountain. Also, if you are into back country there are many options right off of the road on Mt. Rose highway.

Overall, I like living here and don't plan on moving any time soon.

Reno is the closest thing you'll get to mos eisley from star wars...

That is not really an exagerration, either.

If you love dirtbag shit, go to Reno. Yeah, there are mountains there, but just go to mt rose, since youll be too hungover to go any further than that.

its a full fledged college? what classes are they missing that you are curious about? What are you looking to major in?

Reno is tight! I love it. Plenty to do and not as dirtbaggy as some people say, really nice except for the 3 blocks of downtown. Current student at UNR and captain of the Freeride team. Ill be President of the winter sports club next year. Ask me any questions you got my man!

i go to unr and im a freshman. the city of reno itself is aight, bit shit and not much to do but it's close to the ski resorts, like boreal, mount rose and squaw are literally a 40 min drive away, give or take. the college itself is very good, and the quality of education is highhhhhhhh up there, and the people are very nice. in the summer its also nice to be close to lake tahoe to go swimming and hiking and stuff. i like it a lot here.

If I'm not mistaken Reno is "The biggest little city on Earth?"

I haven't been there in quite a while but know it's been growing mightily in the past decade or so. I know a couple folks who have escaped the bay area and now live in Reno.

they're probably saving a lot of money lol

Was looking into buying a house there a few years ago. Bummed because property went up so fast about 2 years ago. Not sure if my credit was legit enough to get a loan. Hadn't had a cc for most of my life but damn. Also had jerb snaked on me so stayed in co.

I prefer living in the mtns though. Mtn peoples are my people.
