What's on your mind - Ladies edition

I'm reallllly struggling. Living in Australia is so hard for me. I actually hate it here and I just want to go back to Vancouver.

I need to just have a rant and let it out.

I can't go back because I'm awful at saving, and I have no frickin VISA to go back and work.

Anyway. I need to try and get a second IEC visa so I can go back, has anyone had any luck with getting 2 IEC (working holiday visas) for Canada???

Anyone feel my pain of living somewhere that you don't gel with and feel lost?

Vancouver really felt like home to me and I have the best of friends there.

The slopes open tomorrow, so stoked! Also my shins are not prepared, I put my ski boots on 4 days ago to mess around and make certain my boot fit seemed good since I got new intuition liners and new footbeds, and holy shit my shins are still bruised from that. Oh well, gotta preload some advil and suffer through this week until my shins build back to their rock hard skiing state.

I already went skiing last weekend! It was fun getting the feel of learning how my Jessies like to play. By the end of the day I was flying down the hill searching for those side jumps

i mean why even bother at this point, it has never hurt anybody to stay up two days in a row :^)

Currently questioning why I am on Newschoolers instead of studying for a pulmonology test that I have in 2 weeks.... ¿is being brain dead an option? Why is capnography so hard for my pee wee brain to understand!??

Does anyone else downplay their obsession/skill at skiing just to appear normal to regular people who occasionally ski? If I mention anything to people about hitting jumps, etc, their eyes tend to go wide, and they tell me some version of how I'm crazy.

Thats funny about the jumps. Ive been told by older guys while riding the lift that I'm too old to go in the park.

I dont say anything about having already 9 ski days this season to the "normal" people

People react the same way when I tell them how many days I skied last season or that I ski in the park, but I dont really mind if they think I'm crazy because it is a little insane to enjoy falling on metal rails in the freezing cold for a few hours every day when there's snow.

"oooo so you do that acrobatic skiing!!"

On one hand I hate how few girls ski, but honestly I don't want more to start skiing because I don't want to lose girl skier as part of my identity. That's probably super shallow but I love being serious about something that's kind of unusual for a girl haha

Ha, you just reminded me of a conversation I overheard two skiers having "those skiers that go in the snowboard park aren't good skiers, more like acrobats than skiers really." /facepalm

Just be over 30 like me and you'll always be alone. It seems like every woman my age has either already broken themselves off and can no longer park ski, or thinks that they are way too old to start learning.

I've been told by older people that I'm too old for the park but yet people that know me are totally cool with it. Even my old fashioned parents kinda think its cool.

I definitely feel you on the feeling alone part. I try to ignore that and just do my thing.

My boyfriend asked me what I want for Christmas and I have no idea because it takes way too much time to do the research on women's gear. Like I finally track down which skis I want, but they don't make them short enough. I find some cool pants, but the reviews say the fit is hella weird. Ohh I like this jacket, too bad it's 500 fuckin dollars. I give up. I'm skiing my old gear for life.

I'm one of those broken people, shit sucks. Turns out this stuff is hard on the body

Tell him you want ski gear yeah but set an amount you want him to spend and go on a date to a ski shop together :)

Which skis?

I really want some blends but I’m 5’2 (looking for something around 158) and they start a little tall. It’s hard to find Women’s skis that aren’t all mountain or pretty stiff. And all the super buttery men’s skis (Vishnus, blends, all plays) seem to start tall. I raced in high school and I’m kinda over long and heavy skis. I’m not all that worried about stability I just want a fun ski. Currently riding on some old line shadow 135s that I’ve since I was like 12 lol foam core is shottt

If you are looking for a wider soft park ski the Armada Edollo comes in a 164 and who doesn't want to ski like Henrik Harlaut? It has quite a bit of rocker so it will feel more like 158. I have the Armada Al dente Zeros in 168 (same ski just a stiffer construction) and they ski great in the park, I'm also 5'2. I don't know how you can manage skiing a 135 ski, that's crazy. It might take you a bit of time to get used to a longer ski but it will so be worth it especially on powder days.

I ordered new lower body armor. My burton total impact shorts have proven to be not the total protection they promise. Maybe I'll finally learn to slide more than just boxes and the occasional propane tank:http://www.xionpg.com/xionpg-shop/shorts-pants/xion-bermuda-freeride-d3o-women.html

On the upside my current knee pads saved me from terrible injury when I lost a shoe trying to 50-50 a tube (the only tube trick I can normally do, other than hip slam). My left knee slammed super hard onto the tube but I barely felt it. That's the second time my knee pads have saved me, other time I kneed a stump hard enough that it tore an 8 inch hole in my pants and took a chunk out of my knee pad. Hooray for body armor.

I'm using these oneshttps://www.amazon.com/Demon-Snow-Knee-Guard-Soft/dp/B00LURTH3S

If I were to get another pair of a similar style I'd probably go with thesehttps://www.amazon.com/Leatt-AirFle...&qid=1545094185&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=leatt+airflex+pro or thesehttps://www.backcountry.com/kali-protectives-strike-knee-shin-guard Those were my favorites when I tried them on at the backcountry warehouse, really good coverage and mobility.

Knee pads man. I didn't get them till recently.. I was sliding a rail casually and I came off a bit early - but as I did that, my knee clipped the side of the rail and I skied away just thinking I bumped it pretty hard. Knee felt wet at the top again so I checked it out... What a sight! Ended up getting both internal and external stitches for it and it was a miserable healing process to have stitches on your knee cap.

Long story short... I got the POC VPD 2.0 knee pads for $80 and they have been the best ever. Low profile, super dense foam, and really good overall protection and comfort. I have their back protector as well for when I need it and that's also prime.

How do I know it’s time for a back protector? I am super scared but trying to do small jumps and still getting my barogs on 50-50 boxes.

I know plenty of skiers wear them, but I never have. I could see how going for inverts or even regular pipe skiing you would want one, but I never seem to hit my back when I fall, typically I slam onto my side. That being said if you want to wear a back protector go for it. I have one that I wear for downhill mountain biking (race face flank core).

I usually only wear mine when I plan to go inverted

My bf and I have to leave for work in 7 hours. He’s not home and I don’t know where he is. I can’t sleep because I’m waiting for him to make sure he gets home alright but I’m about to give up and just say fuck it

Depends on if he does it often or not....

Weeeelllll, id try not to worry about it and try and sleep if he does it oftenish.... he’s grown he’s probably fine:)

I tried. I failed. He said he'd be home "soon" over 4 hours ago so that's cool.

B, this seems to happen frequently. His lack of communication is disrespectful. It's not cool to leave you worrying like that. Is he still on parole? (Am I remembering right?)

Anyone ride the K2 Luv women’s boot collection? 100 or 110 flex? Judge me but the heated boot sounds intriguing but would love to know if it adds weight to the boot. Any reviews?

Yup, it's been happening a lot and he comes home the next day apologetic but then does it again. Last night I was too exhausted after working for 12 hours(which he called off from) and i fell asleep. He ended up getting home at 4:30am though and our dog barked a shit ton and woke up all the other dogs in our building which was less than ideal. Yeah he is and he has an 8pm curfew and can't leave the house until 8am unless it is for work/pre-approved purposes. It's not that I don't want him to have fun/ go out with his friends but any type of police contact can be big trouble for him which is big trouble for me. If his po wanted to come over to make sure he was here, he could and I could get in trouble if I lied to cover for him. I know he isn't cheating and I'm not worried about that. I'm more or less concerned that something will happen legally and I get screwed over.

Yikes, yeah he's seriously tempting the law; and you could get in trouble too?? I'm so sorry you're in this situation. :/

I could get in trouble if I lied to protect him, and it would be hard for me to not try to. If he violates his parole he could go back to jail for an unknown amount of time and I really don't want that to happen for his nor my own sake and practicality's sake(rent, bills, the dog, etc.)

Ski patrol is hard as fuck. It ain't all hot laps, fat skis and yelling at people, it's mostly trudging around with heavy things.

Headed to Colorado in a week or so for 5 days (epic local pass). Need some help deciding on what skis to bring... originally was going to bring both my bibby pro (123 under foot) and my savory 7’s (107 under foot) now I’m thinking I may just bring the Bibbys- I always reach for those on pow days anyway and the savory 7s are more my daily driver. Do you bring two pairs of skis when you travel? I’m leaning toward just 1 pair unless someone can convince me otherwise.
