What's Next For Powder Skis?

I was thinking about how much innovation has gone into powder ski design, so what is next for powder skis?

Are they going to keep getting fatter?
What kind of different designs are going to be introduced such as RC and RS?

Your thoughts on how they will change in the next couple of years?

Also hope this isnt a repost.
 
im liking the 3 stage rocker of surface. also elf shoe tech and reverse sidecut are awesome.

early taper is nice too. those are the most important developments imo.

oh and also new materials like bamboo core to make skis lighter is nice.
 
The elf shoe tech is where its at. Also, a while back ep made some prototypes that were like 160 underfoot and didnt work too well, so i think the waist is almost maxed out.

lighter skis

stronger skis

integrated bindings

those lib tech magtronic (or what ever) edges

some other stuff? no big new break throughs though
 
what about a 7 point dimension ski? mix a jj with an arg
Like 115-135-120-145-120-110? Like reverse sidecut and early taper craziness, with tip/tail rocker.
I wonder if that is even skiable?
 
i dont really understand how elf shoe is different than any other companys rocker. it has camber underfoot and rocker up front and behind. hows it different
 
better job with camber underfoot and rocker at tip and tail, and elf shoe technology to make skis more versatile. im thinking great floating skis that dont suck elsewhere will become more prevalent.
 
Im kinda hoping that powder skis dont go this way, well at least all of them.
I would rather have a straight up powder ski to rule the pow. And other skis for park and all mountain.

Do you guys think there will be anymore break through technology, like reverse camber and sidecut?
 
you mean convex bases, i thought of that the other day too. it'd take powder riding to a whole new level.
 
about the integrated bindings my friend had an idea with magnets where you would just put your foot over the ski and it would stay on and I was like thats retarded but he made a good model and stuff so thats probably next.

didnt read thread but watch the movie "ski patrol" and look at one of shane mckonkeys old photos of him with water skis and snow ski bindings on em.
 
that snowboard company i think is called battalion makes a board like that... it has three planes o the base kind of like a boat hull with a flat bottom.
 
i think libtech had/has some skis like that. but dont quote me on which. thats just what i think i saw in a video once. but obviously not as extreme as stated ^^
 
Definitely not pow skis specific, but...yes.

It's been tried.

The problem is just the fact of trying to standardize a mount pattern for ski bindings...it's all but impossible.

That's why snowboards can do it, they have a (somewhat) standardized binding pattern.
 
It's basically a powder ski with 5 dimensions. Armada isn't the only one to do it, but they have a good explanation on their site.
And if K2 made my hellbents lighter that'd be all the innovation I need
 
Shane had a dream to make powder skiing easier then on 66 underfoot skis. And thats what he did. (Pontoons) I have them, and they are awesome. I think skis will start going towards the tapered tails like the Toons. I dont know where there going to go with sizes in dimensions, but right now ski companies are just filling in the holes of there powder skis to make them suit the type of skiier and snow, its kinda like a big test.

Long live the fatties.
