Whats more important to you? good film segments or a competition

good film segment. during a comp u could just be having a good day. but if u have a good film segment that means u slayed it all year

yeah film seggy no doubt, film segments generally show what you can really do, as opposed to a comp where it could be just park or pipe

fi;m segment. they would be much more fun to put together, and much less pressure.

I think a film segment is definatly much more fun to produce and film...

however i think competition really shows how solid and consistant a rider is.

^ yeah if you do well on a bunch of comps i see what ur saying. but if u just win one compitition who knows u could have had a good day or ur competitors could have sucked. i think the film segment shows how u did all year not over one day or a couple of days.

people that win comps like the US Open, Aspen Open, Vt Open, Bear mt open don't just have " good days"...

Filming hides the possible 100 tries it took you to get that shot.

Good film segments are most important to me. You can film and have massive amounts of fun without any pressure whatsoever while in a comp. atleast for me and some people, you have a load of pressure on you to do well.

good point i see where ur coming from. haha im starting to like the answer a couple people above me of having fun.

I would say the majority of a segment shows the true ability of the skier, not just their dedication to trying something many times. Yes, there are select times when a feature can be sessioned, but you don't have anywhere to practice the exact features you film on. No one gets to ski the same insane line or rail or backcountry jump everyday. They have to have the skills to ski it when they get the opportunity. Comps definitely show your consistency on standard course features, but they don't offer as much creativity or variability as filming does. Filming shows more of the skier's full potential in my opinion.

I would much rather have a big mountain film segment then be in the big mountain comps, those guys are crazy, Hey it's foggy, icy lets go huck ourself a back flip off of a 30+ ft cliff.

If you're asking what I'd rather have, definitely the comp. You have to make money and filmers aren't going to pay you enough to live.

its not about making money... its about having fun at what u like to do the best, filming or comps...

i like to do both.. but i would rather have the best edit of the year than win the biggest comp of the year...

comps for sure cuz u train hard every year 2 be the best and you plan out the perfect "run" and hopefully win all the gold medals then put them in your room and invite friends over and talk about girls. life of ryan.

best show ever.

SPOOOOOOORRRRRTTTTSSSSS!

The 100 tries are at the end of the video or in the extras, they're called the stack reels and are usually the best parts of films :)

Anyway films would be more fun, in comps you have the pressure of the other competitors and public on your shoulders, while films you can pretty much ski aroound find a good spot shot their for a couple of minutes and then keep skiing around for a time more.

I think it all depends. A monumental film segment would be way sweet long-term, but I think the feeling of winning one of the biggest comps in the world would be the best feeling ever for that short time after.
