What's cab?

a 'cab' five is a switch 5.

a 'half cab' (rarely used in skiing) is a fakie 180. switch is interchangeable with cab, so it seems, in skiing. when I say cab, i mean switch/fakie.

however, cab and half cab refer to a fakie 360 and fakie 180, respectively, in other sports (snowboarding, etc)

'Cab' is short for Caballerial, a trick invented by Steve Caballero. It's a halfpipe trick where you basically do a frontside fakie 360 on the frontside wall (your regular backside wall) of the halfpipe.

Technically thats what a Cab is, but these days any fakie spin is usually called a Cab.

Im pretty sure that a half cab would be a switch unnatural 180, this makes sense. There should be a difference between naty and unnatty, which is why there is the half cab.

 
If you want to get technical, there is no cab on skis. Cab is a skateboard trick, meaning fakie frontside 360. Skiing doesn't have frontside or backside, and therefore skiers cannot have a cab. But we still use it incorrectly, just like all the other terms we use. Switch, and Fakie, are both terms that skiers shouldn't use. We would have to remount our bindings to go switch, it is a skateboard term, as is fakie, neither of which we can do. Skiers go backwards, that is all.

Yah, its a fakie 3 like I said. I would say fakie would apply to skiing because it essentitally means going completely backwards from the way you normally go (switch & nollie), so you are going backwards on skis. But who really cares, switch is cooler.

cab means going backwards like cab zero spin or 180 to cab. it can also be used with tricks like 540 to cab or unnatural cab zero spin.

Thy guys talking about a cab being a skate trick, fakie frontside 3 on a frontside wall have it down. 1/2 cab is a frontside fakie to forward.

For whomever caried about Indie grabs - its a skate and board term as well - frontside grab (backhand between your toes on toeside edge) on a backside wall. All those hits in Tony Hawk on a frontside wall are just frontside grabs.

 
cab was originally for skating like everyone said, and it was a fakie frontside 360.... then snowboarders started using it, like a half cab is a fakie frontside 180, cab 5 is a fakie frontside 540, and so on. Then skiing saw that snowboarders were using it and started using it, but there is not frontside or backside in skiing, so its just nething thats done switch, like a cab 9 is just a fakie 900

I don't think it should be converted to skiing, but if that is whatever one else calls it, then i was just explaining what it should mean, and technically, you can't use that term skiing, nor switch. But i am sure you use that too. How about you figure out what the hell you are saying, before acting like you know what the fuck you're talking about.

Thanks smith - and trashdog, newschool skiing would be nowhere - that's right - nowhere without Skateboarding, Snowboarding, Surfing at the most basic, and yes of course skiing as well. Everything stands on the shoulders of what came before it. So a term is adapted from Skating or boarding to explain a move that was inspired and adapted from something that came before it. So what if a mute grab on skis is nothing like a mute grab on a board? Whatever! A word is just a method to describe a thought.

Wanna be dork? Whatever pal. I may not rock the pipe and park on my skis as well as some, or on my board, or on my skate, or on my bike - but one thing I for sure don't do is act like some sort of xenophobe (don't just squint at that, go look it up)
