Really, what makes full tilts better than any other boot? Are they that much more comfortable and better fitting? Or is it just that Tom Wallish is sponsered by them so then they mustbe the shit.
Really easy to get on and off your feet, super comfortable, reduced shin bang, and of course kids are buying it because the pros are using them. Definitely worth the money if you're looking to get new boots.
because kids think full tilts are some kind of brand new, progressive boot design when in fact it's been around for decades.
but seriously, if they don't fit your foot perfectly and i mean PERFECTLY, don't buy them. boots with a 3 piece design (moreso FT) are extremely difficult to modify around the ankle.
Or nordica, like the ace of spades or the dead moneys or double sixes, i just love my AOS boots, so comfy (Nordica, FT and dalbello make the only modern three-piece boots i know of.... )
i dont do all to much park, i would rather ski the alps then do something i can do at stevens pass WA. but i like park boots cause they tend to be a softer flex. 90 is about my max. i cant do 120 flex, way to stiff
90 is one of the most common flexes any brand will make... and honestly park boots tend to be softer since that is cheaper, which is easier for younger skiers (ie most park skiers) to afford.
This! It is so important to see what foot shape you have and what boots work well with that shape, never buy a boot because a pro has it. Buy because it fits your foot right.
I reckon a lot of the comfort/shin-bang hype is because of the leg fit. The fit in the foot area is much of a muchness with any other boot. Where they differ is that the leg, particularly the cuff, is very narrow compared to any other boot. So if you have chicken legs they're awesome and probably one of the few boots that will fit you comfortably and not give you massive shin-bang because your lower leg is slopping around heaps, despite the foot fitting perfectly.
All part of the reason you should go to a shop/bootfitter and try a whole lot on.
Full Tilts fit my foot pretty nicely but within a minute or 2 I knew they would be agony on my calves. So I'm steering clear.
Well shit maybe I should have looked at full tilts a little more closely. I have narrow feet so I've always ridden langes or salomons but the boots I have right now (salomon ghosts) always give me massive shinbang. And it's because of what you said that the cuff is too wide and a 120 flex rating doesn't give much room for forgiveness. I put inserts in behind the liner to try to tighten up the cuff a bit which kind of helped but didn't completely solve the problem. So yeah next pair of boots I get I'll definitely check out full tilt.
Also I see the for stiffness they use a 1-10 scale. Does anyone know how this matches up to the standard flex ratings of other companies?
I don't know of a direct full tilt-flex index comparison but as a ballpark the 4 is soft, like SPK-ish, the 6 is fairly average, and the 8 is stiff. I'd probably say they're around 80-100-120?
