What would be a sick new product for the ski industry?

well this isnt really a product but i saw this once for golf clubs. you can rent the clubs and use them for like 2 weeks then you send them back in the mail. well i thought they should have this for skis like online demos but i dont know how they would do the mounting and everything but its just a thought

I like the uncrackable ski edge idea.. Not sure how I feel about the online rental idea. Cant really compete with local demo rental stores.

hahaah this reminded me of to day skiing my friend went to 5 this jump(probly about 20 fooetr maby bigger) and his brake broke for the 4th time all i could do is laugh and tell him to buy soem p12s.

yeah but in the east we dont really get the chance to demo all those different skis. like say there is that rare occasion that there is 3 feet in the forcast and all you have in your quiver is your 88 waist afterbangds. then you go on the website and then demo some eps or jjs or powder ski of your choice just to see what its like. i know it has a bunch of flaws but it was jsut an idea and it hought it could be pretty cool

Poles with built in switchblades for all those fag snowboarders who decide that binding in half way up and directly in the middle of the park infront of your favorite feature and then bitch when you yell drop and makes them move........just sayin haha

Definitely. I think that brakes are the biggest problem in newschool skiing. We have awesome skis, boots, outerwear, even bindings. But all brakes suck so bad.
Right now the only solution is not to land nose-heavy when landing backwards. We all know this isn't a real solution as it cannot always be avoided. It's ridiculous that bindings marketed as freestyle-spesific can have the brakes completely shattered on the first nose-heavy fakie landing.

Universal mount pattern. It may be hard to do, it may be easy to do. I don't care which it is, it needs to happen and then have inserts already in the ski to mount the bindings. I would really like to have one pair of bindings for all my skis. Or if companies just made inserts for thier bindings, such as rossi with rissi/look inserts, volkl with marker inserts, etc. Some people may not want lets say markers on volkls, but it would be a start. Maybe make it an option for now.

line tried to do that, with 4 holes in a square pattern. i have them on my soul rebels. but the bindings kept breaking i guess so they gave up

and i definitely agree with -ShredTheGnar- about the teleportation, if you could ski into a portal at the bottom and appear at the top instantaneously, the ski industry would be re-revolutionized!

Yea I had the reactors on my 1260's back in the day, it was a great idea, but the binding was not quality. I loved the idea, that is why other companies should start doing it, without a plate too. I guess you can do it the with schizo if you get the k2's with the inserts, but the schizo kinda defeats the purpose of having a 2+ ski quiver because you can move the position. I guess if you have hellbents and extremes you could swap, but i can't see having any other two models without really overlapping.

I was thinking something along these lines.

Say you've got 3 skis, Afterbangs, JJs, and Donnor Parties. Instead of buying 3 pairs of bindings ($600-$900+) you buy one pair of bindings, and three pairs of mounting plates. You but a pair of plates on each pair of skis, then you simply put your bindings on whichever pair of skis you decide to use that day.

Remake transceivers/avalanche beacons.
I'd love it if it could pinpoint someone else's location in an avalanche almost like a radar, it can tell you how far away he/she is and how deep they're buried once your on top of them.
The technology is there.. The higher end ones can have GPS built in so that you can find your way home or search and rescue can know your co-ordinates in an emergency situation.

i swear they already have that technology in jackets,i remember on my mates jacket it has a built RFID tag which is then scanned by rescue teams on the surface to pin point the exact location of the victim.
Ive either got it wrong and talking out my arse but im sure that concept already exists, the north face build it into their jackets i believe.

We need brakes that can continue to rotate freely for another 90 degrees or so, for switch ejections. Seems like such a simple idea but no one has tried it.

I think you should be able to buy a pair of skis for full price then turn them in at the end of the year and get half off the next pair. And do that consecutively. Kinda like leasing a car.

fuck teleport to the top of a mountain. think bigger scale. a huge room with "teleport pads/pods" in a warehouse in new england. bunch of east coasters teleport out west for the weekend now THATS an idea ive had for a while...

+ as mentioned earlier, universal binding pattern...
+ fool proof lifts that go fast....
+ revolutionary ski brake, one that doesnt bend or break when you land switch and that still works properly in pow ....
+ cheap (but good) avvy airbags and beacons
+ new skiboot design, i envy snowboarders so much when i need to walk >:(
+ incorporate a lock into your binding....(turn a key and you can no longer step into your binding...)
+ universal headphone inserts for helmets...
+ put some mean fat metal edges on park skis; theres so much demand for a durable park ski but i don't see a single company putting forward a "durable" parkski that is actually "durable"
+ convex boat-hull bases on rockered powder skis.....

anybody remember Atomic's binding that had a computer screen on it telling you if you are properly in the binding or not? Computer chip in the binding maybe for something else may be useful.

a little clock on the top of your pole so you wouldnt have to take out ur ipod or cell phone all the time

Dynastar 8800s from like 4/5 years ago I think.... had like convex boat hull style tips.

and to the person who mentions Recco
Recco is pretty much a body finder, due to the fact the equipment to find Recco tags is to big and has to be flown in by Heli....
