What Volkl Wall Ski Length

I'm 6' 2" and about 225 lbs. I ski about 50% park (jumps only) and about 50% all mountain. I mostly ski in the east (Pennsylvania) and occasionally get to go out west. I would definitely say I ski at expert level. I am just getting into spins in the park, but when I ride all mountain I like to go really really fast with long wide turns.

I currently have K2 extremes in the 169 size from when I was younger. I know some companies measure ski lengths differently, not sure how K2 and Volkl measure compared to each other. I'm either going to get the Wall's in 177 or 185, not sure which. Suggestions?

K2 measures skis after shaping them. Pretty much every other company measures skis before shaping them (I'm pretty sure, though not positive, that this includes Volkl). Your K2 169s are like 175 or so from anyone else. Extremes are also full camber, whereas most skis now have at least early rise tip and tail, which makes them feel shorter. However, the Walls are full camber so in this case it's irrelevant. If you like your Extremes the way they are and want something of a similar length, get the 177s, they'll be only like 2-4cm longer. If you are a better skier now and want something a bit longer, get 185.

I'm not positive that Volkl measures skis before shaping, but most companies do so I'm just assuming. You might want to look up some reviews to find an article that tells their true measured length. I believe K2 skis will line up almost exactly while other skis will come out shorter, but I'm not positive if the reviewers account for the turned up tip and tail, so you might want to also look up a similar review for any K2 ski (doesn't have to be Extremes) and see if the true measured length is stated to be equal to or shorter than the official length.

Really? I've never measured skis myself, but I always assumed that they measured after shaping. I figured that would make the most sense.

Go for the 185...you won't be disapointed.

My 185 walls are more or less the same length as my 179 K2 Revival Iron Maidens

Hold a pair of K2 skis next to any other pair of skis marked as the same size. The K2s will almost always be significantly longer. My 179cm K2s are significantly longer than my 181 Surfaces.

My 189cm Dynastars are a lot longer than my 179cm K2s so maybe Dynastar measures the same as K2? I haven't measured so I can't be sure, maybe it's just because my Dynastars have pintails whereas my K2s have more rocker and twin tips. Regardless, most companies measure before shaping but K2 measures after. I agree with you that K2's method makes more sense, but measuring before shaping is probably easier.
