What to do?

so. i have no idea what i am doing with my life at the moment and cannot seem to find answers anywhere, so i come to newschoolers to see what you guys have to say. i am 20 years old, working a dead end job for the summer just to go back to school this fall in Farmington, Maine. I hate school, but figure its the best choice at this time. now i am thinking maybe work another month, try and sort a few things out like getting an appartment and maybe trying to find a few leads on jobs out in the slc area, and then moving out around september 1st or so. for the people who have just packed up and moved out, how easy is it to get settled? or is there a better area to try and get into besides slc that still offers good riding nearby? any help would be greatly appreciated. i just feel like i am wasting my money at school becuase i am really not getting anything out of it, so i figure why not just make a living out there and ride the good stuff for awhile, yaknow?

SLC is super easy and a lot of people do that. I don't know if you're looking for a career out here, or just something to get by, feed yourself, and pay the bills. Housing isn't too expnesive. I would check Craig's List. You just need to figure out what you want more. Finish school, or rip. It may be worth it to just finish school and move out here when you have that piece of paper.

well thats an easy choice between slc and maine. but as much as I hate saying it school is important. so thats a choice you'll have to figure out, your definetly going to want a degree so you can make some good money.

but slc is pretty easy to manage. rent is cheap, craigslist is very good for that, or the paper, or u can just drive around and call the number on the sign. theres always a room for rent around campus or sugarhouse for like $250 a month.

and has far as employment goes in slc there is always somewhere to work. I have never had a problem finding a job. whether its REI, an italian restaurant, alta, or a law firm where I work now.

and there are alot of schools around here. the U, slcc, westminster, weber state and a few others in ogden, which is another city about 25 minutes from slc, where snowbasin is located, and its actually a very sick resort.

you could always consider working at a resort and finding employee housing as well, which isn't bad, but might not be good either, haha.

but overall slc is a sick place to live. I have been here for almost 5 years now and its dope. I lived on campus for awhile but now rent a house in cottonwood heights. can beat living 20 minutes from 4 major ski resorts, which are considered world class.

but remember this, don't be a fool, stay in school, haha. your only 20, you have time to go to school, if you want to ski bum it do it, the choice is yours, its all do-able and up to you. there are plenty of people who come here and take a few years off from life and ski, that I can assure you.

but hopefully that helps u a little...

i do appreciate the info, and the advice, i seriously feel like i can't take much more of this place. i know school is important, and i think once i got out in slc and settled for awhile i might look into a community college for a two year program thats alittle more specific than the 4 year deal. I made it through 2 of the 4 years out here, and i think its a waste of time. the way i look at it, i'm 20, i love the mountians, and i have very little responsibility right now, so why not move somewhere nice and enjoy myself. school can wait, a career can wait. did anyone move out on their own or have you guys all done it with freinds or what? cause i think i would be doing this by myself. or does that even matter?

oh yeah, and if i am moving to slc, what resorts do i want to look into getting a pass for, like a combo or some shit like that. no student passes though

as far as passes. brighton runs like 6-700 alta is 999 snowbird is like 700 to. the altabird pass is 1400. those are the only places that count

its cheaper Ogden side for resorts, and if you've got two years down I suggest taking one or two classes in college so you can get in the ski club and get cheap season passes. even if you just take skiing classes, I know they offer them at Weber state, or snowboarding classes if you want to round yourself out.

welll, i really think i am just going to man up and drive out come september 1st, so if anyone knows of a place for a single, 20 year old male who loves snow, furry animals, and smoking bud, just let me know please

your one of like a million ppl here who are all transplants. pretty much everyone i know and meet arent from here.
