What to do when your not stoked and sad while skiing

Recently I've been having days where im not stoked, just super sad and depressed while skiing. I have no idea why and i just let it get to me. When in this mood it just makes for really sad laps and then i resort to basically just spending the day in the chalet and take the early bus home.

Do you guys have days like these, and if you do what do you do to lighten the mood, be happier, etc...?

The only time that happens is when I'm hurt and can't ski how I want to, having to baby an ankle/knee sucks the fun right out of it for me.

Dawg I recommend you cry. I mean just really let it out. Get on that solo chair lift and just pour some for the homies.

But really, just ski with friends now and again. Doing what you love but not sharing it with other people can weigh on you after a while

Try and go back to what makes you love this shit in the first place. Go cruise runs you may not usually hit - look for side hits, jam to some good tunes & let all expectations for your skiing drain away. If you can't get over the bummed out feeling maybe move onto spring & hang up the boots for the season. Start fresh next winter.

If "your" not stoked and sad while skiing...you could do something else. Another option would be to study grammar and spelling. Two great solutions to your privileged, first-world problem!

If you're just bored at the hill, and you've been skiing the same place forever I highly recommend taking on the goal of conquering every run at the mountain switch.

Little Le harder if you're at a big mountain (maybe impossible?) but if not and it's east coast or Midwest, just start at the bunny hill and work your way up.

This is so fun. I skied switch for at least 10 runs in a a row last week and I didn't revert to normie until I was in the lift line.

Another thing that can restore your faith in skiing is teaching somebody else how to ski. It's so rewarding to see others learning and enjoying a new hobby.

Ive been having those days too especially as the season came to a close. My mountain was refusing to rebuild their park and the mountain looked like it was gonna close in feburary just cause there weather was shitty. The lack of things to do around just made me upset cause i would be skiing so much less than i wanted to. What brought me out of it was trying to learn roller tricks and messing around like the bunch does on rollers. It gives you something to work on and distracts you from getting upset

Dude hell yeah. Even try to have an entire day of switch only.

Im actually right now posting from the chair of the local 300' hill on a mission to ski every run backwards. Having a blast.

i definitely know this feeling. are you mostly riding solo? that's been my issue lately. most of the guys i used to ride with regularly have moved away or fallen into the full-time job trap, and i'm finding myself riding solo more and more. I used to love it, but over the years its really become boring and I feel like I never want to push myself when I'm alone

beer helps. someone else made a good point, try to ski areas you usually don't go, and try to change up your skiing style a bit

for me, it's helped to start venturing out into the backcountry. met some new people, gained a lot of knowledge, and it's super rewarding to be on top of a mountain with no one else around. obviously this isn't an option everywhere, but it's something to consider if you have that ability

Try and figure out what is bumming you out. Talk to friends about it. Change your routine. Then, if you still aren't stoked on skiing, stop putting all your energy into it. Pick up another sport, bank some cash, study something. Passions go in waves. Take advantage of the time when you aren't dying to ski and do something else. There will be other times in your life when you won't want to do anything but ski so take a break, charge your battery, do something different and then hit it hard when you really want to. If something is bumming you out, don't repeatedly do it over and over again. Mix your life up dramatically.

I don't understand...I'm always stoked on skiing. Even right now when I'm not allowed to ski park and can only ski a few hours before my knees get too sore to keep going, I'd way rather be on the slopes than sitting at home.

Inability to enjoy the activities you used to love is called "anhedonia" and is one of the 9 symptoms of depression. If you feel like this sadness on the slopes is part of a larger problem, consider talking to your doctor.

I ski by my self all the time. I usually use this formula.

1. Wu tang and Big L

2. Tequila

3. Big stinky roller air in front of gapers.

4. Chat up vacation peoples on the chair lift.

Seriously bro you just need to get back to what makes skiing fun appreciate that you are basically a projectile and that is pretty fucking cool.

Thanks a lot for all your guy’s advice. It’s feels awesome being a part of this community of amazing people. Adding onto this, quite a few of the recommendations you guys suggested have helped me quite a bit with feeling better and being more stoked about skiing.

gah, inb4 "it's feels awesome" "you still need to study grammar and spelling"

Revive. Sorry. Damn didn't know it was possible to be depressed while skiing. Skiing is quite possibly one of the best things ever. For fuck sakes, a recent thread overwhelmingly voted pow day over sex hahahaha. If you're ever feeling shitty, just remember, you could be living in the flat af Midwest and maybe get 7 days on a good year at a big mountain. Sounds to me like it's more than skiing that's the problem.

You could try to meet new people in town to ski with. Be that local everyone knows. Switch up your ski style and try new things everyday

I know how you feel OP. For me it was just trying to go out and do something new and turn on some good tunes and then just zone out on the lift. Skiing has really helped me just gather myself and sometimes, I come out of it feeling better then I have felt in months.

Lol for the bump on a thread from 7 months ago. Here's an update I guess, idk at the time I was pretty bummed out cause I was constantly skiing alone and because I was pushing 70+ days I was pretty burnt out haha.

Now that I've had time to take a break from it for a bit I'm fucking stoked again so it's all good. My advice to anyone who is currently going thru that shit is just to take a break don't fucking worry about "getting enough days" like I did and don't force an activity upon yourself if your fucking sad ya dig.

Either way I'm fine now guys and I really appreciated the support and comical satire that this thread made when I first posted it. Really helped me out at the time seriously...

I didn’t even see the date on this lol. Glad you’re doing better now.

Lay down some fast turns on the groomers. Like low to the groomed and fast. Make them cords your bitch.

Or take some mellow tree laps. Flow some mellow park laps.

Or engage with friends /strangers and try to get out of the fun that way.

Skiing is a great outlet of emotion.

Sometimes I'll just dig. I'll build a new features or go through a park rebuilding takeoffs. The work either gets my mind off of it, or works through some of it.

Usually for me this happens when I am tired or extremely hungry so i just sleep on the lift after I go into the lodge and eat and it gets better.

i usually put on some music that hypes me up, 2pac, Nas or even Mac DeMarco or some lofi shit. then i just cruise for some laps. i do ski alone mostly so it's quite boring at times.

Honestly I find not using my poles here and there makes things so much more interesting. It's easier to grab, handdrag, new wave etc.. I find it makes things funner when conditions or park aren't prime

Sad about skiing because most of my close ski friends either quit skiing, care a lot less, or moved out of town. It's whatever though.

Won't affect my attitude towards skiing. If anything I'll ski harder with a subconscious drive that skiing hard will make my friends want to ski again (even though it won't). On a positive note I hosted 3 Canadians at camp last weekend. First international campers!

Maybe you're just doin the same stuff over and over. Crank like that new playlist the bois put out for this year and try something new a line, boot pack something outside, just good vibes and send man.

Sending it switch down every run sounds great. I have an idiot boarder friend that pops wood on his final run. Idk why I think its stupid but try it maybe it will help you get excited
