I keep seeing all these pictures from sheffiled england with their dryslope. Is a dryslope plastic or something? what is it like skiing on it? In the pictures it looks like there is a halfpipe, can you actually get air? Is it the same as water ramp? If you fall does it hurt like a bitch?

search the forums buddy theres a million posts on dryslopes. also some footy in the vid section if you can dig it up. theres some pics in the photo section too.

yer its like a slippery carpet stuff and it hurts like hell if you fall! and it cuts you.... but still its pretty gd if ya live in England, UK

oh yeh and its like skiing in slush, you have like a bit of resistance when you ski but you get used to it and you dont notice it

Its plastic bristles - lots of resorts use it. Next time you load a chair lift, look between your feet, and if you see something that looks a bit like what you would scrub your dishes with if your mom wasn't there to clean up after you, then you are looking at the same stuff.

so they just go straight all the time in england?

That, and they fall down a lot. Then, when they hit real snow, they fall down a lot then too, since they never learned what those damn metal edges were for.

Shut the fuck up 360spins you dont know shit. Fact is, a lot of English freeskiers are ripping it up abroad and we'd kick yo ass if we could afford to come over to the U.S. more often. My mate Andy Bennet was acheiving high placings in a lot of slopestyle comps across U.S. last season and season before. He's just come 2nd in Verbier ride slopestyle and did well in chamjam too. So you don't know fuck bitch. Oh and check out our Line team. www.lineski.co.uk

Hell yeah - Bennet can ride. I saw him and the rest of the team at the BUSC champs in April - fucking awesome. Bennet did a zero spin on his first hit of the 17m booter in town - pretty crazy. Tom Last is from Sheffield too, isn't he? He was throwing perfect rodeos over the same jump. I, on the other hand, was trying 540 safeties on it and coming up short - thank god for helmets and impact shorts.

Alright, alright - easy pal - I was talking about the absolute newbies who have never skied before, and I only say that from personal experience teaching them to use edges again once they get here. I'm sure there are heaps of amazing skiers in the UK; I appologize and will never throw a bent word towards your dry slope again.

manwiththemet: My name is Lorne Cameron from Strathclyde Uni. Yeah I was at BUSC - I didn't do to well in the comps though: 2nd in slopestyle (I didn't like the course - sloped rail, tiny kicker, three hips, flat rail); I missed the pipe because I snapped my pole right before so I went back into town to rent some, thinking it would be running late, and by the time I got back it was finished. The thing that really sucks is that there were onoly 2 entrants in the ski pipe, so I could have snowplowed down the middle and still won a pair of Line skis. And in the big air we only got one practice run right before the final, so I tried a 5 on the huge booter with very short landing (see pic below), came up short and boucned down the landing onto my head. So then the dude who built the jump comes out and says if anyopne comes up short again, they close the comp down. So on my second run I tried a 5 on the smaller one and didn't land it, so I came away with nothing. First place was an ungrabbed 7, and 2nd and 3rd were average 360 grabs, so I was pretty pissed off - a solid 360 grab on my first run would have guaranteed 2nd or 3rd. Ah well, there's always next year. What's your name and what uni are you at/will you be at? You should come up for BUDS in November - great comp and party last year.

And 'X': Impact shorts are padded shorts to wear under your snowpants - they've definately saved my ass on many occasions, especially on the dryslope.

I forgot the pic in that last post (not me in the photo). This is the shortened kicker that was used in the BUDS comp. The one that was used for the Brits (snowboarding) and the demo at the start of the week (when Bennet was throwing zero spins) was even bigger.
