amazing. you are a master at pulling focus and getting it perfect!

are you going to start a workshop in toronto anytime soon? i would be very interested.

i think still motion does workshops in Toronto. Not trying to take away from MYW's work in anyway cause its amazing.

Again, great film. I'm curious, what lens did you use at 4:14? You panned in with it stopped down and then smoothly opened up the aperture.

Great great work. It's an awesome video, and it's great that you spent the time to come back and update us on what you are doing!

I had the opportunity to film an Iranian wedding with a 5d to help out a friend a while back. I'm not a big fan of the 7d, but the 5d is an amazing camera. Stoked to see you upgraded.

Besides that, iranians party hard at weddings.

Again, that is an amazing video! Make sure to continue posting your work on this site.
Im also wondering, I got a T1i a couple weeks ago and I ve been experimenting with video recently. I'm really liking what i can do so far, but it seems like i can only play around with the zoom and the focus, I can't really manipulate anything else, at least as far as i've seen. I guess what im asking is what do you know about the t1i's video features? Thank you

Well, first off let's be clear that I shoot nikon and I've spent about 3 hours shooting a 5d (plus time helping to edit) and very little shooting a 7d.

However, what I've seen from playing with and looking at a really large amount of footy and pictures from both, both take great pictures.

The video is where it breaks down. From everything I have seen (and I'm super super picky, so I'm sure people are going to argue) The 7d is twice as noisy and the color rendition doesn't even compare to how well the 5d renders colors. The colors and the footage in general from the 7d look much more digital, with strange areas where it's blown out, poor gradients, and hard noisy edges in between layers of gradient.

I don't know if this has to do with how they are used, or post, or what, but I haven't seen any of these same problems from the 5d. The "this is what a 7d is capable of" thread showed how the camera is used by someone who really knows their stuff (the OP of this thread obviously).

I would LOVE to hear Michael's opinion on it.

hmmm. the flying shots weren't shot by Michael. and in the description it said that guy uses canon lenses.but I to am curious about how that shot was achieved.

workshop is coming but will likely be early 2011 as i may be teaching in korea, mexico and hong kong next year as well.

right now im just trying to balance everything out.

The ease and accuracy with which you pull focus is amazing. You're going to give kids on here the wrong idea... ;)

The dancing theme was amazing. The video was building and building until that one moving shot when the lights came on and there they were, in their official dress, dancing. I think my heart stopped, that was set up so well and was so beautiful. By far my favorite shot in the video, and the ones after it where amazing as well (as was, in retrospect, the whole video - who am I kidding?).

Another amazing piece, not only in image quality but in the video itself - you've managed to compress a lengthy and complicated process/tradition into something short and beautiful. Impressive on all counts.

hi c-cash-money.... lol my history keeps following me around.

i used to shoot, edit, travel, and teach with sm from 07-09. im sure if you try hard enuf you can still find links of me and sm teaching for canon, blog posts, promos for steadicam, instructor performance amongst the 3 tops guys etc etc etc. me and konrad are gone from there but do wish them the best!

thank you for the compliments c-cash-money!!!!!!

the lens konrad used @ 4:14 was a 24 1.4 vii. it was shot with the steadicam pilot. now the trick is that he knew that the lights were to come on so he had to someewhat guess exposure, focus and do the steadicam move while having it timed with the lights coming on.

the shot completely blew my mind!!

anytime. alot of you guys seem really keen to learn!

5d all the way; altho i do own and use 2 7ds as well!

copied right from my vimeo post for this wedding. perhaps this will help.

"this piece was shot entirely with Canon 5DmkII's in 24p mode.

there is no doubt that the 5Dmkii currently provides the highest

value/dollar HDSLR in event filmmaking industry today. it is better

then the 7D due to it's full frame capabilities, cleaner low light and

richer color reproduction. when i compare the 5d to the 1dmk4; I do

notice that the 1dmk4 is better in low light, and the 1dmk4's crop

factor is better in certain cases (removing mild vignetting in some

lenses as well as removing the less sharp image characteristics @ the

edges of an image); but for the price of a single 1dmk4, i can purchases

2 5dmkii's. it's a complete no brainer."

are you shooting in manual mode? zoom you cannot adjust in camera so i assume you are using a zoom lens.

u can adjust focus, shutter speed, white balance, aperature, colour tempurature, custom profiles and perhaps even white balance shift with the t2i (cant confirm the last one tho, nor custom profiles)

hi blondie

thank you!!!! pulling focus on those tiny screens is super tough @ first but eventually it wasnt a problem after a ton and ton of practise. keep in mind htat as annoying as those digital moire patterns are when things are in focus, they are actually helpful in trackign focus!

also, thank you for accurately dissecting my work!!!!!!!! bravo!

Anyone else stoked that someone of his caliber is on newschoolers and actively posting?

Excellent video for sure..

twoods

uve pretty much nailed it. i responded re 5d vs 7d and same pretty much the same thing but in diff terms.

5d has superior low light, colour rendition and accuracy, and i would also even go as far as slightly higher dynamic range. full frame totally kicks a$$ as well. the 7d can be made to come very very close tho with strong colour correction.

the 7d does fall apart in low light as i hate to admit. with that said tho the 7d is still a kicka$$ cam provided you watch out for the conditions as well as adjusting white balance properly and removing that green/yellow colour cast in cam using the white balance shift/colour tone shift.

Michael,

Wow. That was incredibly filmed, edited and generally had a very positive vibe about it. That wedding looked like a hell of a lot of fun actually. I was the original poster of "what a 7d is capable of" and its funny that i found this here because i actually just came across this video on POTN and was coming here to post it, ha! Anyways, amazing, wow, wow, wow.

Every single one of your edits blows my mind and would like to let you know that you were a huge reason why I got into HDSLR filming.

thank you!!! dont worry about half as good, you will be surprised what you can acheive with hard work, tons of research and unlimited obsession!

-myw

^ i do have a cinevate duras follow focus but i only use that for corporate shoots, never @ weddings. i just use my hand and rack focus with the standard 5D/7D screen. im going to be the first to say that its not easy @ all but with some practise, its not that bad!
