What takes more balls?

Probably downhill skiing (at competition level; going as fast as possible and pushing limits) in my opinion. The speeds they go on that harsh terrain and on such steep gradient is just ridiculous. It's quite a difficult comparison to make though..

To do well in either Slope or Downhill you need balls.

Downhill is an entirely different animal then GS or Slalom. Downhill requires a mental toughness beyond slopestyle. A downhill run is like a minute+ of sustained high risk exertion. Where as slopestyle is like 5 seperate instances of high risk with a chance for a slight breather in between. Plus a slopestyle run shouldn't be comprised of new or high risk tricks, a slopestyle comp run should be your best stuff you have dialed, so potenially not as risky.

Training and learning new freestyle tricks is where the balls come into play, you gotta muster the nerves to huck whatever it is that first time. But in competition formats you are in general doing more practiced tricks.

Nobody without some level of mental fortitude combined with reckless abandonment will do well in either slopestyle or downhill. But I would classify more of the downhillers I have known as having a couple of screws loose then I would the slopestylers.

this. Just because they are so different. I like the point someone made about not really being able to bail once ur already goign 70mph though

for me, slope. throwing my tricks over those 75 foot wedges would make me shit my pants. however, I have raced a DH before, but only in ontario, which is incomparable to shit in the West or Europe. racing as a whole is a little scarier than slope, iv always been far more jittery starting a race than starting my run in a slope comp. this being said, the scariest shit is standing on top of a line in the back country.

Go watch some downhill skiing crashes on youtube. I'd take a knuckle or overshoot any day over some of those crashes.

Yeah, but most undershoots aren't gonna be on the level of Spong or Tanner, and most overshoots aren't gonna be on the level of Dumont's either...

I'll tell you what for sure takes more balls than slopestyle; charging gnarly big mountain lines in the BC.

Well there have been mixed answers here and there so I only counted the obvious stated for slope or downhill. And I didnt include the answers of rails vs jumps.

votes:

Slopestyle is takes more balls: 6

downhill takes more balls: 15

Lawnmower: 1

So i guess right now downhill is winning with a pretty solid lead. and Lawnmower is in last place. Seems like mowing the lawn doesnt take that much balls.

Just raced my first super giant slalom at the Wisconsin state meet today, I'm no racer and I was way out of my comfort zone, going fast as hell down a steep Icey coarse was scarey as hell, so I can see how it takes balls to race but I still question some jumps park skiers are hucking dubs on.

Personally slopstyle.. That's only because I come from a racing background and am comfortable going 65+ mph
