What speed do we hit when bombing??

I've been wondering lately what speeds we hit when bombing down a steep run....I know super-g racers hit like 120 km/h so is it safe to say we probably hit 100? It's pretty crazy to think that fucking up at those speeds is like falling out of a car at highway speed !

a friend of mine had a gps tracker with him on the ski hill one day. we hit over 60mph just bombing straight down a steep blue. so yeah, around 100kph is possible!

i had like a radar gun once like 3 years ago and i went 55 mph, whatever that is in km/hr.

baggy clothes and unwaxed skis slow us down...

gps is a good idea... I've only tried it once and it was like at the end of the day on a blue like two or three years ago... lol I hit like 42 so I'm pretty sure I could probably hit 50-60 now. gps' are sweet

I was clocked at 72 last season. I don't think it the fastest I'd ever gone, but I was definitely bordering on the edge of control. Sudden stopping would've been a problem.

We played with our freestyle team's radar gun one day a couple of years ago, and I went someplace over 60 mph. One of my coaches was in the 70's. Fun, fun stuff.

never really thought about it, I've gone as fast as my little hill would allow, dont think i broke 100km/h but I dont really know.

I've hit around 60 tucking down a long steep trail at Stratton, but yeah baggy clothes definitely slow us down

yeah, but my bet is he had waxed skis and a suit on once, when I was 11 (six years ago) I was clocked at 63 in a tuck and a speed suit...my coach broke 70, just about everyone else was between 55-65 though. I don't think I go much faster than that now even if I am bombing it cus my skis are never waxed and baggy clothes....

Tanner hit Chad's at 55mph when he did the sw9, so I'm sure some really high speeds are possible.

at my hill there is a slope that is close to like a 45 degree angle, and is about 3 or 400 yards long and people were clocked on the flats right after it going 85mph in a tuck with their gs skis on. i have tucked that run quite a few times, and i would think i have gotten close to like 70 with my baggy shit on and elizabeths, and let me tell you those skis are fucking scary at speed haha.

people broke 80mph in the 70's by going straight down the head wall at tuckermans ravine... on 70's skis... thats flexing nuts

put yourself into our position, i started laughing when i first heard people talking about "feet" as a measurment!

i mean you guys hear it every day so it probably sounds normal to you, but its fucking rediculous.

+karma for the guy who likes the metric system

Hey, Im as much a Metrican as any one, but I use feet all the time.

If I have to start measuring things in centimeters or Hectares Im going to have an anurism.

lol i've probably gone around 30-40 MPH, never really tried just seeing how fast i can go

its tough on center mounts lol

Those 70's skis are faster becaused they probably have no sidecut. Get on a pair of 94 b-squads or something with like a 40 m turn radius and you will HAUL ASS.

what is the world record ski speed?

i read an article in a mag once abot it and these guys would bomb this straight hill on super long skiis in like these thousand dollar suits that didnt let air in.

can someone please inform me?

Well I've been on freestyle air sites with radar and the jumps are kinda small in comparison to some of the ones I've hit recently and we were clocking around 70 km/h. Didn't even feel fast so I'm sure bombing a steep groomer you could get going 100 easily

back when I raced, sometimes the coaches would bring out a radar gun. I broke 80 MPH at a super G training thing.

when i raced i got clocked at 45ish at 100lbs and on 165's, on my big super g's (201) and 130 lbs ive hit well over 60 close to 70 bombing.

my coach clocked me at 69 mph in a downhill race, but i have done faster if im just straight lining it lol

My dad tells me stories from when he was a ski instructor at arapahoe around the early 80's. People would hike up the chutes with rubber suits and like 250's and would hit 120mph. When they fell though the rubber suits would burn up because of the friction.

THIS MANY!!!!!!

I remember watching a speed skiing comp on Reevolution of Sports (such a sick show btw I wish they still had it) like 5 or more years ago. Of course it was sponsored by redbull and they were hitting speeds around 150mph. It was a incredibly long steep run starting off with a huge drop in off a giant redbull can. As for me, Im not too of my top speed but I know I reached it on Keystone's Go Devil. I would always try to turn at the top but it was way to icy for my dull edges and I would end up strait lining near the top. I would guess I was going about 60mph.

ya my friend hat a gps like 3 years ago or so. we just went straight down this blue, it wasnt that steep, but we just went straight the whole time. we clocked in at like 65 once. probably have gone faster since then.
