What skiing phases have you gone through?

2010-2012- Average gaper that hangs out in the parks.

2013- Comp jock phase. Spin to win everything. No concept of grabbing. Still dressed like a gaper.

First half of 2014- Took a digger and degressed. Stopped spinning a lot. Watched some Brogan edits and tried to copy his style. Wore clothes that were way too tall for me.

Second half of 2014- Tried to copy B-dog. Had super flaily arms and I looked really unbalanced.

First half of 2015- Skinny pants phase. Tried to copy Khai Krepela. Looked OK. Later tried to copy B-dog again and learned a lot of tricks.

Second half of 2015- Tried to copy LSM and Keegan at the same time. Felt like a G. Learned a lot of tricks.

2016- Finally started doing my own thing.

2011- typical gaper hanging in the park

2012- did a bunch of spread Eagles thinking I was steez

2013- copied Nick Goepper cuz I thought he was the coolest

2014- bought first XXXXXL thing

2015- learned backflips and rodeos and bought first XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL

2016- started snowboarding (just kidding)

3 years old- rocked that harness and shorty skis.

4-10 years old- skied four days per season

11-13 years old- Oh shit, I can turn.

14 years old- No more snow plow, finally started carving.

15 years old- Started getting air, skied first black diamonds. Straight lined runs for the hell of it.

16 years old- Massive fucking progression... finally got my driver's license and put in 65 days. Got good at moguls and trees, started carving pretty well, got as much air as my little hill would allow, Finally figured out how to dress.

Present- Still not much of a park skier, just getting into photography and planning the move out west.

I was a LATE bloomer in terms of skill. All of a sudden it just clicked and I found my rhythm.

2011: Orange Oakley jacket, looked like a comp skier. Ah, the days of my mid teens, where I was took most of inspiration from the first B&E shows. How times have changed. Shout out to Jiberish too.

2012: All back and grey Saga kit. Got slim pants, and did generally mediocre tricks that year. Can't really align the style with anybody who was killing it at the time, but it was an overall underwhelming year.

2013: Style got mixed up for the worse here. Couldn't decide between medium baggy or fitted, so I did both. Didn't turn out too well, skiing was better then 2012, but not as good as 2011. Still a decent year all around.

2014/2015: Finally dropped off the baggy gear for good, and have kept it fitted ever since. Respect to Yoke for keeping me warm during those cold days. I'd say my style improved in 2014, and had an overall fun time doing so. 2015 season was unfortunate, but I did luckily improve my technical trick selection.

2016: Here we are. Not much has changed since 2014, but I'd say that I've combined the many styles and tricks I've gathered throughout the years. Probably my best season yet, experienced many things reminiscent of the 2011 year.

2017: Only time will tell...

Fun writing it all out, and seeing how much has changed

2012 tried to be as comp pro as possible

2013 - 2015 b dog type stuff

2016 skied for myself, worked on improving more technical aspects of my skiing not just park. feels good to ski for yourself and create your own style

2010 - learned how to ski/beginner. probably skied 10 or so days.

2011-2012 - basic gaper in the park, learned basic stuff and got into everyones way. 40 or so days a season.

2013- Tom Wallisch stage, had a northface jacket that was below my knees, baggy black snowpants. I probably watched Sunny twice a week. Had really shitty afterbang and filmed a lame video. 70ish days skiing. Got ns.

2014 - Similar season to the one before but i learned a lot more tricks and wore a lot of tall ts. Skied Whis in the summer for the first time and met a lot of new homies. 80 days or so.

2015 - Joined a team and quickly realized that it was not for me. Spent most of the season filming short iphone videos. Started the season off baggy/wearing tall ts and gradually changed to a different style. Skied the most that I ever had this season, with around 120 days.

2016- Skateboarding definitely influenced my style, wore more fitted pants, did a lot of butters, and developed my own style that I don't give a fuck what others think about it. Made a lot of new friends, and had a new perspective on skiing all together. Skier owned brands are cool ( s/o yoke). broke 100 days this season.

2017 - change is constant.

I'm English and only 16 so my timelines probably spread a bit further out than most

2005 - Fall down mountain and hope I don't die

2008-9 - Fall down red slopes and hope I don't die

2011-12 - Fall down black slopes and hope I don't die, begin carving

2013-14 - Regularly ski blacks and am your average, above average British holidayer

2015-16 - Start skiing two weeks a year, improve technique and skill starts to progess again

2016 - Managed to get my self on two trips next year, started landing standing back flips at home and am going to a dry slope in the summer to progress more in the park, it's looking good boys

2006-2008: young gaper

2009-2011: I got good at skiing normal slopes but had no clue what terrain parks were

2012-2014: Found out what freestyle skiing was. Straight-aired everything and tried a couple rails

2015-2016: Actually started doing real tricks. Still not focused on comps or anything else yet, just trying to get better at skiing..

ITS NOT A PHASE MOM. THIS IS WHO I REALLY AM.

'02 - Started learning at Mt. Snow. Went through the fence during a lesson one day

'03-'08 - Learning phase

'08-'11 - Love hate relationship with skiing. My dad had to drag me out the door in the mornings but he couldn't get me to stop skiing in the afternoon

'12-'13 - GoPro phase. Began going in the park. Learned boxes, small rails, 180s, thought I was the shit

'14 - Stopped focussing on skiing when I fell in love with filming. Broke out of the Gaper phase

'15 - Filmed a few times, didn't get to ski nearly as much as I would have liked

'16 - Didn't get to ski a lot. Met a bunch of homies from NS and such. Planning a shit ton of filming this winter so stay tuned!

2000-2009 Skied with the family, wore what ever my mom purchased lol, pizza frenchfry

2009-2010 Thought I was rad in my digital camo burton coat, strait-airs with grabs

2011-2012 Green on Green Oakley outerwear, s/o to Coreupt, mellow spins, Gopro nerd

2012-2013 Got black snow pants, perfected carve, bigger spins, picked up DSLR camera

2013-2014 First big/tall gear, Saga kit, bigger spins and flips, injured ACL, more photography

2014-2015 Same gear, more mellow after injury + rails, posting photos on NS

2015-2106 S/O Bloom + Tall T for outerwear; got new pow skis, moved to Colorado, more technical skiing; i.e. trees, backcountry, steeps, cliffs, pow, etc; stacking banger shots and posting them NS.

Stoked for the "next phase" what ever that entails.

2005-2008....kinda embraced the gangster style and approach to skiing. Stopped racing in 2007. Looking back I looked so dumb but also smoothed out and gangsterfied my style which I personally am a big fan of to this day.

2008-2013...lot of progression. Try to get way better every single day. Towards the end of that phase in like 2010 really started to phase over into all mtn approach to my park riding.

2014-present not really intersted in lapping park anymore. Much more interested in shredding big lines or finding creative things around the mountain. Style is maturing and am still getting way better. Would rather throw a nice corked out 3 with a solid grab than a hucked 7 at this point.

1998 - 2007: learn to ski/race school

2007 - 2014: get 360's and straight rail slides dialed, mostly ski trees

2014 - 2016: realize that my true calling is not freestyle skiing, but ski acting, which consists of doing easy tricks in the park and reckless stunts on the mountain while donning varied wardrobes.

fuck progression, ski act till I die

joined a freeride team once I moved to Utah with my family, tried competing, royally sucked at that/fucked myself up pretty good, and then I realized that romping around the mtn. with your buddies is a million times better than being told how to ski.

-tourist gaper

-tourist gaper who found out about park skiing (even cringier)

-tourist gaper who can do a few tricks

how is there only one post in here that is pre 2000?

90s - shredded straight skis

1999 - hit my first rail. beginning of park phase

2006 - bought trekkers. beginning of touring phase.

2013 - got old. Everything hurts a lot phase.

07-11: skiing down the burliest black diamonds in the Midwest in my spyder jacket bro

12-13: I can do a flat rail but down rails scare me, looking like a kook.

14-15: starting to understand this kink rail thing and small spins. Fitting in with black pants, hoodie.

summer 15: bought the summer setup expansion pack for my bag of tricks. Shorts, tee.

16: got gooder, wore the same jacket from '12 over a hoodie. Busted the thrift jacket out for spring. Became trend lord. Forgot how to blind swap to switch. Forced to become jump jock.

First ski when I was 3, year 97, then I joined the race team and I compete until I was 16 then I realized that it was too hard for a career and I turned into park skiing for a couple of years, did some freeskiing comps in Canada for the 12/13 season and then coached for another year in Chile until last year that I started focusing on park comps and got some really sweet results...

Don`t know where are the truly OG members, can`t believe only a couple of replies come from the 2000 or earlier

80s = Spyder stretch pants and Columbia jacket

90s = Burton pants & Patagonia jacket (skier pants were just so damn tight back in those days)

00s = as baggy as possible (Orage, Oakley, HH)

10s = same outerwear (I no longer get my shit for free and I'm too cheap)

2014-gaper trying to slide rails

2015-learned a whole bunch of new tricks just didn't have any style hahaha, spin to win, arm flails

2016-tried to ski like the Bunch

2000 - First ski at Brighton, Utah

2002 - Take ski trip to Vail, become stoked on the sport

2005 - Start skiing as often as possible in the Midwest, got my first pair of twin tips and landed my first 360/slide my first box & rail

2006 - Joined a Chicago-area ski club so I could ski every weekend. Met other freeskiers from the area.

2008 - Went to Momentum Ski Camp, got stoked on this new concept of "steeze". First year I cared about outerwear or anything like that. Got a baggy Obermeyer suit like Peter Olenick had.

2009 - Moved to Steamboat Springs, CO. Lived here for four years. Wore whatever outerwear. Oakley, Orage, DC, etc.

2012 - now Moved to front range, still ski every weekend possible. Feel that I've improved every season since still, just not as much. Outerwear is still whatever. Helly Hansen, Saga, Virtika

1996 - 2006: typical tourist kid cruisin around with parents (maybe 10-15 day season)

2007: noticed that there are skiers that rip the park (thought it was a snowboarder thing till then), built jumps with my kids gang and misserably failed 360s, started watching ski edits

2008 - 2009: got twin tips, slid my first rail, did my first huck and tuck backie and 540, still wearing gaper stuff

2009 -2010: got some Salomon baggie gear for christmess, started hucking myself into ungrabed 720s, learned some basic railtricks

2011- 2012: friends had cars so my days per season multiplied, landed my first cork 7, my tricks got cleaner, still wore baggy stuff

2012-2013: first time getting a season pass, able to use all park features there were at my home park and most of the other parks around, getting to know the local park scene, wearing the most fucked up gear cause I couldnt afford any new stuff (spent all the money on ski trips)

2013-2015: focusing on jumps and started to ski bigger lines in the backyountry (still fucked up gear)

2015 -2016 had some money left and bought some new gear (switched to slim fit), bad winter-> had to stick to the rails cause my home resort didnt built any jumps and snow conditions sucked, started to actually like sliding rails as much as I like hitting jumps, 2017 I'm probably trying to hit some urban stuff

Preteen and teen years before college: East coast weekend skier skiing bumps and going on vacations out west to ski bigger mountains.

College: Went in Southern California but still skied around 30 days a year, we had a ski team which had a house in Mammoth so I spent vacations there and several weekends a month. Got much better because I actually skied steep terrain, which was different from living on the east coast.

After College: Spent half a decade living in Tahoe skiing Squaw everyday and working nights. Skied 130 days a year, so I obviously got much better. Went into the park/pipe every once in a while but almost always skied steep terrain even when it was icy. Unbelievably fun until I tore my acl during my last season.

After Tahoe: Became a socal yuppie who skies Mammoth 3 weekends a month and 40 days a year. I love my life, although I do sometimes miss Tahoe. I get to surf Orange County all summer and ski Mammoth all winter which is cool, although I do drive a whole lot. I should be able to heli-ski every couple of years although not every year. I will probably go next year for the first time.

I have had a good go of it. I am happy now. I had a good time in Tahoe although I am glad I left. I have never been much of a park skier.

2012 - slope rowdy gets to laax thirst time dressed like a gaper, bails a lot of rails. have to do this more.

2013 - getting to be a jibber, learns first k-feds, mad fun.

2014 - tries to have as much fun as possible with friends, playing king of the snow with stupid challenges. teams of 6 with 30 participants. mad fun.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9r...wn thing and it seems like going on this way.

1988 learn to ski

1990 straight-lining everything when the ski school leader wasn't looking/terrifying parents

1994 I'm rocking a sweet one peice

1996 starting to get pretty decent at spreads and straight jumps, no longer in the one piece

1997 started skating in the off season and trying grabs on skis - still a huge gaper

1998 start snowboarding

2004 snowboarding and ski blading ("I can do tricks now" - can't actually do tricks)

2006 start riding twin tips and learn spins, stil la bit of a gaper in style

2008 buy first pair of twin tips do my ski season, learn to hit big kickers, do flips, hit rails

2009 - 2013 get super into skiing, it takes over my life, I make loads of new friends and progress loads, dressing super OG thug, my tall T is hella bright! I also race for my university now... on twin tips, becuase I have to

2014 refine style, everything gets skinny, breaks ACL

2015 rehab finished, week 2 on skis again breaks Meniscus re-ruptures ACL

2016 Rehab - move to a more all mountain ski approach, all about cruising and flow, less focus on tricks, breaks ACL again completely - still totally loves skiing and the awesome people I get to ride with, couldn't care less about trends in skiing anymore, I just want to be able to ride... starts wearing ski brands off the mountain as I can't ride

TL:DR I'm old and broken as fuck, skiing still rules!

2013 - (when i started skiing) much pain

2014 - less pain

2015 - attempted first rail, much pain returned, didnt attempt again

2016 - 0 snow east coast year so mainly bombing groomers

2017 - we shall see

always skiied for fun alone. dont really care if i can hit rails, boxes ect. if i dont have fun its not worth it imo. I enjoy the shit out of just carving alone for hours. would love to get into the backcountry scene sometime in the future.

09-10 started skiing and learnt 360`s during fist half year of winter

10-11 no progress still at them 360 and gaper as hell

11-12 still gaper

12-13 tried 540 real sketchy but landed it started to ski park way more and i did also learn how to slide dem railz

13-14 a lot progress did my first 720 and of course did get better at rails

14-15 not much learning but getting more stylish on tricks

15-16 best year so far did go way bigger, learnt a lot and got much stylish at tricks

16-17 going to start gaper things again . fuck park

Gaper, matching top and bottom suit, gaper, gaper, huuuuge straight airs, gaper, learnt backflips, gaper, ditched poles, still a gaper deep down.

2012: shitty skier who's thinks he's good enough to get sponsored, no actual style just pencil spins and scorpion backflips

2013: a slightly better shitty skier who still thinks he's good enough to get sponsored, same style as 2012

2014: getting better trying dumb doubles on pow jumps / starting to compete and actually train but still terrified of park jumps doing 3's and 5's all year, slightly better style as 2013

2015/16: Crazy progression from scared of 3's to spinning all 4 ways over 5. Full comp skier. realized how important style is and worked on it a lot, not that it improved all that much but i went from really baggy to in-between baggy and fitted. Id say the last year has been the biggest change in my ski life

That's how it goes, best of all worlds and it will help you with being able to ski anything as you get older and your knees don't work the same.

2009-2010. Learned to ski, got off of the bunny slope in 3 runs and hit a blue square slope on my first day of skiing ever. Kept hitting sidehits and getting some air. Immediately realized that I loved freestyle.

2010-2011. Got better at black diamonds, etc. Tried to go as fast as possible everywhere on the mtn. Went out 12-15 days a season.

2011-2012. Got really good at black and double blacks. I would see others do rails and jumps and thought it was the coolest thing ever. Always wanted to go in the park just to try stuff. (50/50 on boxes, straight airs off of small jumps).

2012-2013. Still doin straight airs and 50/50s. Got my first pair of twin tips.

2013-2014. Started to hit some bigger jumps, usually knuckled. Started to slide boxes sideways.

2014-2015. Bought my own pair of full park skis. Spent 100% of my time in the park. Still doin straight airs, started to hit bigger jumps. Learned 180s and started doin them off of everything. Learned some basic rails. Built my own PVC rail and used it when it snowed. Thought I was cool bc I wore slightly "baggy" clothes. Wore hoodies. Spent a good 3-4 hours on a 70 degree march day on a flat rail one day in The Alley at 7 springs. GoPro phase.

2015/2016. Thought I was cool bc I wore riding shirts and baggy stuff. Learned to hit more advanced rails. Hit basic rails as much as possible. Once I was comfortable I tried some front 2 outs. Could do them real inconsistently and sloppy. Hit some bigger, 20-30 ft jumps. Tried to be steezy and learned some basic grabs.

2016-2017. Going up to 7 Springs more than ever. Re learned front 2 outs and learning to do them cleaner. Hitting bigger jibs. Learning swaps on some basic, short, fat tubes. Entered the "Line skis and saga" phase. Meeting some new people thru Instagram and NS. Also teaching my friends how to do rails. (A select few in my area actually try at park skiing). CONSTANTLY thinking about skiing.

Age 11: Started skiing, cheap ski swap gear. Pizza and straightlining. Thought I was pro cause I had Columbia and Spyder

Age 12: Upgraded to old Atomic race skis. Learned to really carve

Age 13: 50/50 boxes. 180'd off every small bump. Still on old Atomics.

Age 14: Got my hands on some Masterminds. Started charging everywhere. Destroyed myself on a couple boxes. (Haven't tried one sideways since)

Age 15: Still charging everywhere. Hitting every pow stache possible. Mini gopro edits with electronic music cause Core.

Age 16: Progression - Learned consistent 3s. Holding solid grabs. Riding switch decently. Charging the whole mountain with steaze.

Age 17(this season): Less focused on spins and looking for ultimate style
