Yo im 120 lbs, 5'6, and currently ski 171's, am looking to upgrade but the ski i'm looking at is either 169 or 177, its full camber. What should i go for? Thanks

the good rule of thumb is your height give or take some for skill/preference/the ski's attributes etc etc

so youre 5'6" which is like.. idk somewhere between 165 and 170, so go with the 169

but i'd want to hear what the ski is and how well you ski/how you'd use the ski before i locked in my answer ha

It's the volkl wall, I ski about 70% park 30% all mtn, fairly aggresive but not overly, I want something that will last..I was thinking I'd grow into the 177 but if it will be just too big?

hm yeah then i'd say go with the 169, which will probably (it differs from company to company whether the reported length of the ski is the actual running length or higher or lower and i don't know which way volkl goes) be like a cm taller than you

i wouldn't advise getting the 177, which is like 10 cm taller than you unless you think you can def handle it and the pros (added stability speed etc) will outweigh the cons (more cumbersome, harder to handle, etc

i know it's tough to decide when you know you're going to grow..how do the 171s you currently ride feel to you?

considering youre getting it for mostly park i don't see much of a need for a ski 10 cm taller than you unless that's your style

but some second opinions should inform your decision

Depends on your preference. I am 5'2" but prefer longer skis. I ride 178 Nurture's and 172 Lizzies in the park. But I don't spin and flip as much as I used to, so I can get away with longer skis.

Let's start with this: What do you want to use these skis for?

If you want to spin in the park, or want something that will be easier to throw around in the trees, get the shorter length. I don't think you will see too many negatives from buying the 169's.

If you want to ski aggressively at high speeds and don't mind sacrificing a bit of maneuverability, buy the longer skis. Worst case scenario is the 177's will ski long, and swing weight will be a bit much in the park. Depending on how you ski, they may cause issues for you.

Please post the dimensions/model of the skis you are looking at. Are they for park, all mountain, or powder? This could help us recommend a length of ski depending on what you want to use the ski for.

I want to use them for groomers and park, mainly park. I ski pretty chilled on groomers, slow long turns, however in the park I would like a low ish swing weight. I don't do any huge spins, mainly 3's 5's and the occasional flip.

The ski : Volkl Wall 2014 (115 – 87 – 115, 20.2m @ 177cm), it's definitely a park ski.

The shop only has them in 177, so if thats not ideal I'd have to look at a different ski. Thanks for the help man
